Scams

As many of you know, I work as an insurance adjuster. We have been getting a HUGE influx in claims regarding people contacting grandparents stating "I, your grandson, have been in a serious accident in (insert country here), and need (insert dollar value here) for medical bills. Wire the money immediately." Please let the elderly people in your life know about things like this, and ask them to contact another family member to try and verify their whereabouts prior to taking this into consideration. I know we all joke about how our Nigerian king uncle has passed away and all, but lots of people do send large amounts of money for this.

What I would like to know is, do any of these people that initiate these scams ever get caught? I never hear of it. They should have their fingernails pulled out one by one.

My grandpa got one of these calls about 3 months ago. The person at Western Union warned him about the scam so he called to check with me if I was really in an accident.

My grandpa is a sharp guy, but like most grandparents are pretty trusting of their grandchildren. It sucks people prey on them like this.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

1.) A lot more than you would think. 2.) They are usually told to go to a Western Union or the like.

The guy who sits next to me got a call from his Dad the other day. Apparently, one of these people contacted his grandparents. On their way to Western Union, they decided to call his Dad who in turn contacted him. He seemed genuinely surprised that he was not in Peru attending a friend's wedding.
