Possible roofing company scam

a co-worker of mine is telling me that he got approval to have his roof replaced as a result of some damage back in july....

it all screams scam to me especially since he wanted to replace some doors and windows and its supposedly possible to roll it all into an insurance thing

APcontractors Inc
708-495-4848
2139 S. Cuyler Ave Berwyn IL

the street view at that address shows residential and resturants and reversing the phone number comes up blank

anyone know about this compant or can find something about them?

It is a scam of sorts. Basically what they do is work with the insurance company's estimator and claim that the price to do the roof is actually 30~40% higher than it truly is. Then they take the extra money, hire some small time roofing contractor at 70 or 80% of the quote from the insurance company to get the roof replaced. The difference (which sometimes is thousands of dollars) they split with the home owner. This leaves the home owner with a new roof and a few bucks in his pocket. The insurance company gets scammed out of more money than it actually cost to make the insured whole again.

Did he find the roofing company, or did they find him?

That'll tell you if its a scam or not. Tell him to stop talking to them immediately, call me if he needs some good free advice, and if he really needs a new roof...to call "Ponch" on here.

We would send an adjuster out to inspect the roof. Also, if they were writing to replace the hole roof, there would be depreciation applied until a final invoice is received, and if $5000+, then his mortgage company would be applied. While this does appear to be a scam, there are still safeguards to prevent against this. With that being said, insurance companies are never going to be able to completely elliminate fraud, and things can be done to work around safeguards.

Roofing scams are huge in this area. I lost almost 10K to one. don't trust any of them and only pay the bill after the work is done.
