Talking Chicago robber picks on the wrong person

UFC mixed martial artist turns tables on robber who gets beat up, shot in leg with own gun

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/mo...#ixzz1focIlDyK

An alleged robber in Chicago picked the wrong man to mess with.

Anthony Miranda, 24, attempted a robbery and carjacking, police said, but his would-be patsy was a 33-year-old mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championships. The tables were turned rather quickly, according to the Chicago Tribune.

According to police, the "victim" said Miranda approached his car near Kenneth Ave. and 55th St. and asked for a light for a cigarette. When the man, who did not want to be identified, said he didn’t have a light Miranda pulled a gun, demanded valuables and told the driver to get out of the car, police told the Tribune.

What happened next is probably what you would expect when someone tries to rob an MMA fighter: a one-sided struggle.

Instead of cash and valuables, Miranda came away with bruises all over his face, a bullet in his ankle after his gun discharged during the fight and a mugshot for the ages.

The UFC fighter was able to hold Miranda on the ground until police arrived.

Miranda got a trip to the hospital and is being held on $350,000 bail.

According to the Tribune, Miranda is on parole and has served time for multiple burglaries. He was released from prison in March 2010.

That was a fake ending to that article.

Doubt it. He really wouldn't be in that area for any reason that I can see. It is just a block or so East of Midway airport.

That's a stretch. Neither of them train around here for any reason.

I'm pretty sure Bonner moved to Las Vegas. After Carlson Sr. passed away that gym lost a ton of students and fighters.

Curran and company are in the opposite direction...up in Crystal Lake.

This is probably the most likely scenario! The closest good gym around that area would be Uflacker's. They have some solid fighters and some MMA guys to to train with him just for ground game.

Another vote for CCW and Martial Arts training.

As for who the fighter is, there are a lot of low level fighters in the area since we have so many excellent trainers in Chicagoland. I worked with one in the IT field; I asked if he was gay after he told me drove a Saturn...later to find out he fights MMA and has been training in martial arts since he was 8. It's a good thing he has a sense of humor.... So it doesn't have to be a well known fighter, just one that doesn't like a gun in his face.
