Redline Cycle Service

I do some of my own maintenance, but I had other service work done at Chicago Cycle Center until they closed last year. I know that many people complained about CCC, but my experience was usually very positive over the years. In addition, CCC was about 10 minutes from where I live, and convenience ruled.

This fall I took my bike for the first time to an independent shop in Skokie, Redline Cycle Service. A friend of mine who used to ride told me about this shop and spoke very highly of it. They tend to specialize in Kawis, and they do a fair amount of restoration work on older bikes. However metric is metric. I called them up, introduced myself, and made an appointment to take my bike there for some routine service and winter storage prep.

The owner, Jim, and all of his staff treated me with courtesy. The work was done properly, and the mechanic who worked on my bike spoke to me by phone directly to discuss what he found, what he did, and what he recommended. They only recommended work that they saw as being necessary without simply running through checklists of stuff to do.

I was impressed with this shop, and will continue to take my bike there in the future. I'm just a customer--I don't have any other relationship with this establishment. However, good work and good people should be recognized. redlinecycle.com

I looked into that place a few years back, but if I recall correctly, their website said they weren't taking in new bikes for service or something like that.

Glad you had a positive experience and good to hear that there is another good place in the area.

They have been around for a long time. They were in another location close to downtown Skokie for many years.

When I called them to discuss bringing my bike in they told me they could work on mine without any problem.

I used to go by Redline to drool over the KZ's as well, I didn't realize they were still open.

There is an independent about 2 blocks from my work.
They do other bikes but specialize in KZ1000's

Glad you had a good experience. I really enjoyed working at Redline from 85 to 91 as the Manager and am glad that Jim didn't pack up and move to AZ after he scaled his business back and moved to the new location.

I don't understand why he's not on the 'master list' of 'open shops' here on CLSB (or is this for franchised dealers only?)
