What do you believe in? Or are you open minded?

Do you believe in evolution or intelligent design? Or are you somewhere in between?

I'm taking an critical thinking course for my Bachelors degree and this is an assignment / discussion we are having right now.

So what does the CLSB crowd beleive in more? Hopefully we can make this a friendly discussion. But if it gets out of control... so be it.

Evo vs Intel Design? - Look at the "Caveman" then look at Gorillas and then look at the growth of Homoerectus (sp) and tell me we did not take part in Evolution?

Either that or Tom Cruise is right....

It is not something that can be answered in a short paragraph and in a short time - Dissertations have been written on this topic hence my suggestion to read up on it plus the term evolution is just that - Evolving from something does not necessarily mean the extinction of the former

jrock is trying to point out that while humans and apes have common ancestors we did not in fact "evolve from apes".

However recent informtion has shown that the opposite is true and that evil monkeys have evolved from humans and ride motorcycles and engage YWB in frequent acts of coitus. See this handy chart:

Because only certain ones mated, breaking the chain. Like bug states, this is far too much to go into

My view:
The bible was written BY MEN, for mankind, to make the world a better place. It's a basic set of rules.

Now honestly, in my mind and own personal belief, the Koran, book of mormans( and whatever the fuck else has come along is to let those people have more of a control of their people. Honestly, you people think its ok to have 200 wives? It's stupid.

It's a basic fucking set of rules, that other religious zealots have made changes to for their own benifets.

So those of you that believe in god, Koran, or wtf else there is, then please explain now there are ZERO mentions on dinosaurs mentioned in the bible.
Because they weren't discovered until long after these bibles have been written. And all I know, is if I was a god, and seen these world wars happening, and murders of the Jewish faiths, and the Muslims adapting the koran to cause mass murder to people because Americans set foot in "the holy land" to help those people out, even though bin-laden was getting our direct help, is fucking bullshit.

Sorry, but this rubs me the wrong way. The USA helps those who can't help themselves like afganistan, and Iraq. We helped them, and they fuck us right back.

Welcome to America where you have the right to chose your religion. Unlike other parts of the world

...plus my gf was with me saying "omg slow down, slow down" and I was thinking "Lose annoying squalk box in passenger seat, afford more mods and have less weight in the car and on the back of the bike"...so i dumped her and I'm single again as usual...HERE KITTY KITTY!!!

Care to elaborate?

I believe the traditional definition of intelligent design = created by God.

Back in the day sometimes in the 1859 Charles Robin Darwin published a scientific and compelling evidence for evolution in his book On the Origins of Species.

When the proponents of the creationism can produce scientific and compelling evidence to support their speculation maybe the world will accept their view over the evolution. Until then evolution wins.

Science vs Dogma? Science of course!

Flashback news for creationist: The Earth is round not flat!

you needed a creator to create the first living organism. according to science there is no answer for it because you can't just take carbon, sugars etc... and form a living being out of the blue.

This always goes back to the argument of "God created the Universe, without God, there would be nothing."

Next step: "Who Created God?"
Answer: "No one, God has always been and always will be."

Next step: "If God has always been......... why can't the universe always have been?"
Answer: The universe always has been here, we just don't understand how...........yet.

Religion was created to "answer" the questions of the unknown, to quell the fear of the people, and to add guidance (or control). "If you hurt someone, you will go to a place where you will endure never ending torture"....... Has a bit more OOOmpf, than "You shouldn't do that, its not nice."

For comfort, a story about a place where the is infinite bliss for eternity....... is much more comforting than "when you die, your electrical patterns in your brain (consciousness) just stop."

And back to the original question.... Intelligent Design vs. Evolution is just another way for religious people to push their viewpoint into society.

And with that... (skip to 35 seconds in)

Futurama
