customs question

if anybody know, I'm travelling to Thailand (through Korea) and someone asked me if I could bring some jewelry there for a gift (12 diamond rings worth ~$10k). Do I have to declare this? And if so, am I going to have to pay anything?

Serious answers only please.

these 12 diamond rings, are they for your 12 asian brides. You have to declare them only so the government knows to take those names off of their sex slave list. Less ho's to keep track of when they want to go "around the world" or sucky sucky. Also you might want to check the sex of these ho's. Thiland is known for its trannys

although the items aren't illegal, I bet i would raise alot of suspicion.

Chance are that the authorities in Thailand won't be as pleasant as the ones in the States.

In my opinion, it's not worth the headaches/risk to do a favor for someone.

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

They have a personal goods limit of ~ 300 dollars.

The cash / currency limit is ~ 2500 dollars.

Their legal system is draconian ..... I wouldn't mess with it.

Swallow said rings, shit them out during the flight, swallow again, shit them out again when at hotel. Celebrate with ladyboy orgy feast. And we want gopro video of the orgy.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Yes, you will need to pay import tax on them.

Yes, you will need to bribe several customs officials to keep / enter the country with the rings. Expect to need about $500 for bribes.

Best bet is to not declare them (personal items, that you're not selling) and hope you get through customs. If they are found by airport security, a "negotiable customs fee" (bribe) will help out.

My sister has dealt with the Thai authorities while she was doing her research work in country. Every shipment of gear, package, etc..... required a bribe. Same with her passport extensions. She had less hassles when the gear / computer / equipment was her checked baggage when she flew in. So there is a little hope for you.

finally a helpful response! I'm not going to declare nothing and hope for the best. I might put some rings in my kids luggage too. And have the wife wear 2 or 3

Just be sure to have cash (U.S. currency) just in case for bribes. If not, they will seize the rings, they will be entered into evidence, warehoused, and you will have to bribe even more people to get them back. And remember, they will start out high with the "fee"..... EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE.

whiteSeatEnvy takes acception to your statement that there is only one post in here with helpful advice. When they confiscate your zirconias, you will be saying to yourself I should have swallowed them, shit them out, swallowed them again, and shit them out again. whiteSeatEnvy is not happy with you.
