Unlocked cell phones

I am in the market for a cell phone and am thinking of getting an unlocked android phone to avoid any long term contracts.

Where is the best place to get them (that is a "trusted" source) and which providers do you use for the sim cards?

Been searching online but unsure who to use.

newegg.com retails unlocked phones
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...unlocked+phone

you can also get them off criagslist

depending on which cell phone provider you're with now and your standing as a customer with them, you may be able to purchase an android phone for that carrier and request the unlock code for it and then take it to another network.

i am not familiar with how off contract service works

Buy a mint condition carrier branded phone from Craigslist and join a prepaid plan like t-mobile.

They'll unlock the phone after a few months of service and there are no contracts involved.

Much cheaper that way compared to paying a full price for the device.
