Class of 2012

I am sure someone wrote something similar 15 years ago, but there were no forums or twitter or FB to spread it around it like one can now. :-)

I was driving by my old high school yesterday while the kids were leaving.

Nearly everyone's rockin flashy shoes, brand name cloths and an attitude.

Couldn't help but think what kind of future lies for these kids.

I'm 26 and blessed enough to be in the top 10% of the society in terms of personal income. Yet, I drive a 98 minivan and haven't bought a new pair of jeans in 3 years.

These kids are up for a rude awakening.

You better be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.

I like how rich people are poor. TDS has his home on cinder blocks and can afford a pair of $20 jeans.

Not sure what you mean, but they'll be a burden on the society by relying government assistance or occupying the prison system.

I think my class is less than 10%, if that. I just know 1 or 2 people doing hard time.

Why aren't those numbers representative of the local population?

shit it's worse now. Now they are using a tier system for the regional gifted and classical schools in Chicago. So basically if you live in a lower tier, it's easier to get in as there are less children testing for these programs out of those tiers. Alot of wealthy people are getting apartments in the lower tiers so their child has a better chance of getting in. It's crazy.

It's all about priorities, managing your life for the success you seek and want, with the standard of living you are minimally comfortable with.

Those who want more than they are willing to produce, or who feel 'entitled' to a good life without providing value for their employer are the ones who are in for the rude awakening. The rest will be OK.

Great article, especially the section on competing globally. That may be an easy concept, but I don't think very many people truly understand what it means. But I'm not sure where he is coming from saying kids have it harder today than four years ago....

It is far better to be thought of as a smartass than an dumbass. And as American Humorist Robert Benchley (1889-1945) noted, "no matter how well-intended, any reply to a dumbass question will inevitably appear smartassed". - Bob Hall (creator of the Miata)
