All I know is that all the tower work to get LTE up and running is messing up my service. Suddenly I have data and voice failure in C'ville on a regular basis. Everyone I know with Sprint out by me has been messed up.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

*sigh* Fucking marketing & advertising shits... hate that they've taken the term "4G," covered the definition with their own shit, and sold it to the public still steaming.

On a more positive note, there's another new T-Mo commercial out.

Meh, I look at 4g as speeds. 42mb HSPA+ with better battery than 42mb LTE = win.

Now, Theoretical eventual LTE that doesn't exist in US......

Neither WiMax nor LTE are currently compliant with the IMT requirements (100Mbps/1Gbps) for 4G networks.

However, IMT has recognized that this two competing technologies represent forerunners to IMT-Advanced compliant versions and "a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed"

It is a war out there for the rights to be a prevailing technology (similar to CDMA vs GSM; VHS vs Beta), both upcoming versions will be lightning fast and down compatible.

So is the new EVO worth upgrading from the original?

I have had some really slow 3g connections too lately on Sprint, I am wondering what is going on.

See I love Sprint, but am considering an upgrade. I've heard the iPhone on Sprint sucks, but the iPhone on Verizon is great. The EVO has been a great phone since I installed the larger battery, but I'm sick of hauling this huge thing around, with the additional battery it's pretty stupidly large.

So if this new EVO has the battery issues sorted I might consider it instead of switching Carriers.

Another thing is Verizon is way more expensive for the iPhone.

I'm sick of my EVO, have to charge that thing twice a day because service on Sprint lately completely sucks & Iphone on Sprint is unusable.

I had Iphone on ATT and I didn't had to charge it every day.
My contract is out in couple of weeks and I don't know what to do.
Wait for Iphone 5? Will see if anything get improved.
4G on Sprint is fast if you have it, and eats battery like crazy.
I bet LTE will be the same way, mostly not available, so having phone with LTE on Sprint will be pointless.
ATT and Verizon said they will have shared data plans this summer, so I might switch to any of them , or maybe TM gets Iphone so there will be another option.

I never turn on 4G for the battery draining reason, so I don't really care about LTE.
I just want a good phone that lasts all day.

That's what I need, and looks like Iphone can deliver but it has to be on reliable network.

Chicago should/hopefully/will be lit up with Sprint LTE service by the end of the year. They started out west and are slowly moving inwards as they rip out and replace the tower hardware. Go check out http://www.s4gru.com to learn some interesting inside information about the Network Vision rollout project.

So the question is, do you wait it out and HOPE that the new Sprint network actually kicks ass. Or do you throw in the towel and go to Verizon? Quite frankly, I'm ready to do the latter.

How much would a plan equal to the Sprint one be at Verizon?

I'm tired of Sprints crap, but I'm not willing to pay more for an incremental upgrade (both in hardware and bandwidth). I'm still pretty happy with my 2 year old EVO. Though I wouldn't mind a more powerful processor that hopefully is more efficient with the juice.

A lot of trade-offs. With Kate & I, I'm in a "family plan" situation. As such, with Vzn, we'd both have to get individual data plans (with shared minutes) depending on what caps we choose.

For plan alone, you're going to have to pay a lot more. I'd lose my 27% corporate discount I have with Sprint and probably pay $200-$225 a month for two lines. What I'm really hoping for is that Vzn finally rolls out some sort of shared data plan, which would allow both of us to draw from a common capped data pool. I'd like to think that the math would work out better, but until numbers are set, that remains to be seen.

As far as hardware, coming from an Evo, you'd definitely be jumping more than incrementally. When I dropped the Evo for a Photon, that was an "incremental" jump but a significant one. Having additional RAM, the dual-core CPU, and more app storage space, made a huge huge difference over my time with the Evo.

For the time being, I'm going to wait to see what Samsung actually does here in the US. I'm cautiously optimistic that the carriers won't drag their asses like they did rolling out the S II here in the US this time around... cautiously.

So is it "official" Sprint's network is sucking recently and not just my phone?

My wife's iphone on sprint will hardly ever work with Siri because of connection issues.

It's what I've been hearing all over the internet. All these "towers are down" and "network upgrades". At first I thought it was all just excuses, but I guess it was true. LOL

Correct. I have a friend who is actually part of the Chicago LTE rollout project. Back in December, they were projecting that Chicago would be completed by July. But there's been all sorts of headaches & delays in their first conversion area (way out west by Elgin).

If you spend some time digging around s4gru.com, you'll learn some fascinating information about the actual tower hardware, and how they're actually ripping out everything and rebuilding each tower from the ground up. Here's the specific sub-forum to check out:

http://s4gru.com/index.php?/forum/9-...te-deployment/

There's actually a specific Chicago thread, where there was some older chatter about Elgin and the surrounding area.

Read this thread, it's very insightful regarding bandwidth & tower saturation.

The month of April, Samsung plans to extend deeper into suburbia expanding the Addison cluster westward into Carol Stream and Bloomingdale.
We have May 10th and I work in Addison, and so far there is no fucking improvement, 3G and phone signal sucked before and sucks now. If it's ON now - it blows.

Hey HSPA+ 42Mbps doubters, RootMetrics says learn to love your T-Mobile 4G network because it’s pretty damn good. According to their study, T-Mobile is closer to AT&T’s LTE network than you might expect and definitely belongs in the top tier with Verizon’s and AT&T’s LTE networks. Their most recent study took a look at 42 markets for a combined 320,000 drive and indoor location data tests, using off-the-shelf consumer phones you can already buy from your carrier.

In order for a carrier to qualify as above the “upper threshold” in each market, the carrier had to deliver download speeds above 3Mbps in at least 70% of the tests for a given market. At that speed, it would take 10 minutes or less to download a 30-minute television show in standard definition and 10 seconds or less to download a music file. The “lower threshold” shows a carriers download speeds of at least 1.5% in at least 60% of the tests in a given market. The “middle path” indicates the percentage of markets in which a carrier neither exceeded the upper threshold nor fell below the lower threshold.

While AT&T may have performed in the upper threshold in 18 total markets, T-Mobile did so in 13 markets. Both carriers were blown away by Verizon’s scores in 36 of the 42 test markets but considering T-Mobile has yet to roll out a LTE network, the RootMetrics study felt: “T-Mobile’s HSPA+42 network might present an interesting choice for those looking for an alternative to AT&T or Verizon.”

As for Cricket, MetroPCS and Sprint? They didn’t even close to the scores obtained by AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. Sprint fell beneath the lower threshold in 23 out of 42 markets for a percentage of 55%.

So how did RootMetrics rank all the carriers?

Verizon continues to excel
AT&T is making strides but is still clearly in 2nd place
T-Mobile quietly performs strongly
Sprint is falling behind
MetroPCS offers some intriguing possibilities
Cricket stands alone at the bottom

Yea MetroPCs has been in some carriers eyes since I was in wireless. No one took the plunge and just did it.

I wonder how their customer loyalty is because if its high it would increase the Tmo customer base without too much risk.

But then of course Tmo would be liable for updating all their networks etc.
