Why would you want either one?

Life has no instruction manual. Parts and labor can be impossible to find. Many go down the road with parts that are in need of service. A breakdown is eventual.

What is included in the competition package? If it has better brakes and over 500hp it should be on par with the new one. Personally, I think the new one is a better looking car being a real convertible but that may not be an advantage for you, the hard top is probably a better option for racing.

come on..the GTS has 1500 miles?!...It's not even really broken in. Get the hard top that's set up, as long as you can justify it cost wise vs. the'03, you didn't mention cost.

If you really plan on racing it don't buy a new one. Your going to give it a workout that most vipers never see. But you'll be grining ear to ear.

1 consideration:
A lot of race tracks these days don't like convertibles on the track unless they have a rollbar or its some huge group funtion and the group takes over the liability.

Most people treat thier viper like a garage queen. Its a car, get out there and drive it.

Hell more vette owners do that than viper owners.

On pure volume that is true. They've been building them for 50 years after all. But I'm gonna apply my previous rant to them also. I put 20K a year on my vette and I didnt drive it in the winter.

Get the GTS. RT/10 aren't as cool looking, or as awesome. But remember, Honda's bikes will always beat it. The sport one's I mean, not a Goldwing.

In every top speed competition i've read in a car mag, the dodge blew something. Get something reliable man. An NSX would do nicely. They don't have the torque/hp of a viper, but it's Honda, how can you go wrong?

Also, if you do pick up an NSX, maybe (big maybe) you'll become as cool as Mr. Wolf in Pulp Fiction. Then again, you are a cheesehead. BTW, before you call me a FIB, look to your left to see where i live. Just remember, it's all in good fun dude. If you can afford anything the likes of a Viper, you'll be sure to have a good time.

That is exaclty why you should take his advice he had a Katana he got smart he is just trying to help you out. He doesnt want you to make a similar mistake.

The NSX is an entirely diffent beast. Its the car that is easy to drive fast. You'll be cruising along look down at the speedo and realize that your doing a buck twenty. But its still a force to be reconed with on the road. Best description I agreed with about the NSX is its a super car that you can easily drive to work. They are both moving pieces of art.

A friend of mine has a Viper GTS. He took it to a dodge dealer for an oil change and they couldn't do it. They couldn't get the lift under it. He had to take it to Jiffy Lube and when it was done, he had to back the car out instead of driving thru.

Id go for the GTS. Drop a roll-cage, some better internals, pop in a 200shot of nos, then your all set! Whats the price range though? If your gonna spend alot of money, why not look for a nice Porsche? ZO6?

Actually I think the new GL1800 Goldwing will run around 4 seconds 0-60 which will should match most of these cars. Although that's still slow since the fastest sportbikes can run 1.9 -2.5 or so. I pretty sure the new wing will do a sub 13 second 1/4 mile.

I thought 2.6-2.8secs are good 0-60mph times.
1.9 seems verrrrry quick
Either Viper would be good in my opinion - but as far as I can remember Car and Driver or R/T did a viper vs. corvette track test and I believe the corvette Z06 was actually faster around the course. So if it will just be a track vehicle maybe a corvette would be an option and pocket the extra $$$$ or invest in mods and racing supplies.

I dunno what they say anymore but I usually spend less than a half a years salary on a car. I honestly can't see spending 3 years salary on a house either and being able to keep making payments, but then again between taxes, charity, and retirement savings I never lived on more than half my salary.
