Multiple Appliances Purchases Soon

With my house almost completed being built, i am about to head out and do the major purchase of a fridge, washer & dryer, hood/convection oven, TIVO and possibly a surround sound system. My fiance and I visited ABT a couple months ago and saw some outstanding prices on fridges but everything else seems to be the same pricing as a best buy or great indoors.

The good thing is that a really good friend of mine is also purchasing the same amount of appliances in the next 2-3 weeks for his new house so I can kind of get an idea of the savings.

My question is this, are there definite benefits to ABT or drawbacks? Would there be any other recommendations for where to buy some of this stuff? The surround sound I cant buy there since they dont carry the brand I am looking for but everything else they have. Suggestions?

When I bought my house last year, I bought all my appliances @ American TV in Rockford (the only drawback), they beat Best Buy & Sears in price plus got 0% for 3 yrs. they ship to Crystal Lake, but not sure about N'ville. (they also carry alot of high end items as well)

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

I've bought from ABT before. Always got good service and a good price. I've also done business with the ABT family through one of my brokers. If you go go to ABT ask for Mark Goodman. Tell him that David Greenspahn referred you. You might be able to wheel and deal a little better.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Thank you very much. If we end up going to ABT which will probably happen I will try that.

On a side note, I know that ABT does let you negotiate prices a little bit. Since we would be getting a fridge, washer/dryer, hood and possibly TIVO. Would they be a bit more flexible since the amount of items and money that would be sold? Would it work out for the best to do it all at once?

they like to deal, they expect it from customers so go out and get internet price quotes. expect to pay same or a little higher when you show the paperwork for what you already found. walk out with a big smile

Ironic you should post this...I just had a fridge, stove, and dishwasher delivered yesterday from Sears (I'm having my kitchen remodeled).

I did a spot check online of some prices of comparable models between Sears and ABT, sometimes ABT was higher, sometimes lower. I don't know if ABT has 0% financing, but when I got my appliances at Sears there was a 12 month 0% promotion going on.

My contractor said that ABT has good prices, although Sears will stand by Kenmore appliances. And after recent experiences with GE appliances from Best Buy and remembering we had a Kenmore washer and dryer when I was growing up and how it outlasted my stay in that house, I figured to go with a less problematic brand than GE.

Before you go anywhere, decide on what you want. Check out Consumer Reports to see if there is a reliability report.

I work for a large appliance manufacture and have the unpleasant task of dealing with Sears on a daily basis. Please do not buy an appliance based on service they supposedly provide. There prices might be great and that is fine but call the manufacture for service first before calling Sears. I have personally seen them screw up enough stuff to where I will never, I mean NEVER EVER let one of their repair man in my house. I'm not talking about simple mistakes that can happen. I am referring to mistakes where they have done serious damage to the home or the unit and have not stood behind it. Their prices are two times what the industry standard is and some of their practices are just all around shady. Trust me on this one.
I also have have alot of industry data. If someone wants to knwo the truth about what appliances are good and what are not, let me know by PM. I'm not talking about the flowery consumer reports stuff either.

ABT is the best! They're a little north of Lake and Milwaukee in Glenview. Check out their bigass fish tank there. There's a bigass yellow eel and a shark in there.

ABT is the ONLY place to go.....they deal in the wonderfull art of negotiation...try that anywhere else. Yes they do special financing. Bought a Sony last year with 1 yaer same as cash.

Don't look at the website prices as everytime i bought something from them, i simply say "what's the best price you can give me on this?" 2 minutes later, I have an awesome deal and always have been happy.

Example: bought a sony HT5500 system last year. Retail: $599 Best internet price $539.

ABT's no haggle "give me your best price" $535. I didn't even have to tell them that i sae it for $539, he just quoted me a price.

Trust me, that is why ABT is sooo well respected and popular as they are.

ABT is great. I got car audio there and paid $300 for $550 worth of product. Appliance wise, I always try to go with Kenmore or Kenmore Elite.
