Professional movers?

Any recommendations, advice, hook ups?

I'll be moving to Detroit area in Michigan within the next couple weeks from Lincolnwood (northern suburb of Chicago). It sucks because it's pretty short notice, but I couldn't turn down the opportunity.

I don't have much stuff, maybe enough to fill a studio apartment. I could ask some buddies to help but really don't want to. So going with the option of renting u-haul will be out for now.

I just called one place, and they quoted me just over a thousand.

Any help would be fantastic.

Just over a thousand total, including driving? That's a good price.

What's the point in moving your stuff to Detroit? It'll just get ripped off as soon as your back is turned there.

I agree with Elroy ... Pods. That's how I'll do it next time I move.

Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

Be careful of any hidden fees (like fuel surcharges, etc.). Some of the moving companies can be a little unscrupulous.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

Hire someone to help you load the Uhaul, drive that thing over here, hire someone to help you unload.

Cheapest option yet still somewhat convenient.

Never done it, just saying
