iPhone 5

Anyone warming up their credit card for the possible preorder after the announcement?

I am not one to typically jump on the fads, but my old phone backplate shattered a few weeks ago, so I've been on the edge of my seat waiting for this thing to be unvailed so that I can replace my handicapped phone.

I'm going to get it, but probably wait a couple weeks to see if any big issues shake out.

And just so you know, the back plate is very simple to replace. Couple screws at the bottom of the phone and it just slides off.

not sure yet, I've always been a fan of grabbing it as soon as it comes out but I sure hate all the damn kinks it has. But that's nothing "software updates" won't fix, right?? Just like their "death grip" on the i4, they just fixed the way the signal bars look. LMAO EPIC! But this year I think i'm ready for an upgrade from the i4. 2 years ago I camped out and got hella baked and met some cool people. Might do the same this year or might wait it out.

How are you guys going to get the i5? Preorder? Wait in line?

I pre-ordered the I4, had it 2 years and have liked it so I'll likely be pre-ordering the I5.

My i4 i got many months after it came out, so I just walked into the store. I did a preorder for my wives i4s and that was a very good experience so I am thinking of preordering the i5.

Thanks for the info, I just through a cheap case on it for the time being. If for some reason I am not going to get the i5, i'll look into replacing the back plate.

Funny thing, that phone took a tumble on concrete many times and faired fine, but one splat on a marble floor and it went poof.

Wrong!
8-megapixel sensor, a 5-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. Same as the iPhone 4S but thinner.

New connector = more money for Apple and its partner hardware ecosystem as everyone has to replace all their cables, docks, etc.

I put all my white cables in a draw last year when I moved to Android and I carry one cable with me to recharge and or sync my phone, tablets, bluetooth headset, fiancee's phone, OBDii tuner, the list goes on.

And have fun with that extra 1/2 inch in screen size; I've had twice that ever since Apple drove me away with the lackluster 4s announcement.

+1 when I was replacing my blackberry I thought of the iPone for a nano second. Plans were insanely expensive in my opinion, I have never been a fan of anything apple, but Jeff has listed most of the reasons. I didn't want to switch from T-Mobile, I wanted 4G. I liked the Nokia Lumia phone and the windows OS. So far no complaints. If I had a 4s, I would wait for the 8 or 9 whats a couple more months

I'm glad I can fit my iPhone in my pocket.

The new connector annoys me, but it's a small issue since there's an adapter.

New processor, bigger screen, LTE connection, slimmer, lighter, better battery life; yeah I'm cool with upgrading from my old I4.

Jeff, haters gonna hate. Why? I'm not hating on Android phones? I'm always amazed at how any positive talk about something Apple makes brings out the most vehement backlash on the intrawebz. Live and let live, my friend.

Geez, that connector was almost a decade old, how long can you expect Apple to keep designing it in when everybody wants their electronics to be thinner with more electronics crammed into them?

And I have an iPad, so no need for your gigantic Android phones. I'm glad they didn't make it wider.

I'm excited for this phone. I'll wait a few weeks to order it to see if any issues shake out though. But of course I say that, chances are I'll preorder it Friday

So can I. In fact the curved screen on my Nexus seems to make it feel less bulky than my 3GS did. Pocketed screen-in it feels contoured to your leg in a front pocket.
A single radio for 4G LTE is a good step forward (although anything less would be uncivilized). Good for improved battery life.

who is hating There are folks who believe there are better options than the iPhone. Unfortunately to get it thru to your typical iPhone user, you have to be brutally harsh. It is a great phone no doubt, but I suspect over 90% of the iPhone users don't use it anywhere near close to its capability. Most use it as a phone Yea I like the new camera, thinner longer battery life, is it enough to make me change, nope, Jeff merely stated why. No hate.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

Exactly. I grew up on Apple Computers and was a certified Apple technician way before any of you ever had a trendy Mac in your homes. I still use iTunes and had an Apple phone for years. But their cellphone platform no longer is the best option out their for everyone, which includes me.

The other funny part is the pricing, it still costs $100 for 16GB of flash storage apparently

How long until the micro-mini-tiny USB comes out?

I only have to carry one cable, so I could really care less if now I have to go out and get a 20 pack of tiny adapter for $5 when they come out.

And when is USB going to design a reversible connector?

Seems like such a simple idea that will make a huge impact. No long will I have to fumble around in the dark, trying to plug my phone in.

Well since I'm not handicapped it's actually quite simple. Plug in connector. Connector doesn't fit. Reverse connector. Connector Fits.

It's a neat feature but it's nothing that is going to make me change platforms for. But if I still had my 3GS I'd move to it for LTE alone.

So simple minded, you need to learn to think outside of the box more. Just imagine when shit faced drunk, in the dark, with the connector in a hard to reach place, how much easier it'll be to plug in.

It's all good though. I'm going to get the phone and enjoy the shit out of it because there hasn't been an Android phone that has made me want to switch over. They can continue to play catch up.

My truck has the old style connector. I am very upset at this stupid Micro USB. I can understand my Jawbone bluetooth switching charging cables but Iphone or Ipod cables are installed in everything. Adapter or not I will not upgrade for this simple reason. I'll buy another Iphone 4 if mine breaks for 100 dollars if that's the cost of admission. I hope they don't sell 2 phones and have to revert back to the old charge cable. WTF was wrong with the old cable it didn't get in anyones way....

I'm just a lil pissed off about this. Apple everything has been pissing me off lately.
