Help with a Via Voice Question?

Hi all:

As some of you know I'm finally getting my right shoulder fixed/cut on the 18th. I'm going to have my right arm strapped to my chest for almost a month. I'm not looking forward to 1 finger typing. Therefore, I'm looking into getting Via Voice to take up some of the load. Is it worth the effort? Also, there are 4 different versions and multiple revisions. I've seen Via Voice Pro USB 9.0 for as low as $20. Release 10 jumps to $145. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bruce

Advice? Good luck.
Seriously though, they're not bad, but you have to really put in the time up front to make it even remotely worthwhile. I did some demo testing of ViaVoice and Dragon a few years ago. I'm sure they've progressed since then, but I recall it took a significant amount of "training" (dialect, enunciation etc.) before it started to actually work as advertised.

If you must you must, and it's better than nothing, just be prepared to spend a weekend or two getting it tweaked. I'll see if I can dig up my product reviews, but given the older versions, they might not be too much help.

Thanks, my partner said he thought he saw a write up in the trib that was favorable on one of the newer versions. He just couldn't remember which one.

You can count on spending time training it and it training you. You will have to learn to enunciate better than normal conversation.
