I manage a small doct office and I cockblocked radio services at the office to conserve bandwith and I also dont want any of those player installs.

But how can I reply to their request with a no, that they can understand.

Internet bandwidth is cheap. Up their circuit speed and stop being a dick, it's small office.

We block it at some of our facilities where we must, but we try not to unless we have a reason. If you dont have a reason then don't block it.

Better yet, get a cheap second connection. Use a router to route all internet or specific internet trafffic over the second connection freeing up your dedicated connection for work shit.

Only install one or two approved radio clients and then don't give the users admin rights on their computers.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

what are you conserving bandwidth for? Is the internet used for business purposes? If so you have your reason right there, offer to bring in a separate circuit for youtube and pandora so they can put a $$ number to their usage and let them make the decision.

Yea, every employee runs RDP when they are working so I was a touch concerned about usage between all of them causing delays but a big chunk of it was installing extensions and crap. Tired of reworking PC with spyware, etc. (hasnt happened since I blocked nonessentials) so I didnt want to reopen that door.

I think the doc office has a max staff of 9 people (3-5 at a time) and it uses consumer grade comcast BBand.

RDP to what and where, why is that even an issue? Have them run their internet junk on their local desktop and not within their remote desktop session.

Do they RDP to an offsite server using the internet as their method of connectivity? Do you have a hardware VPN tunnel to facilitate this using the internet circuit?

Tell me you have a server with ports open on an internet IP address that allows RDP traffic to it.

I can see it now. You have an off site server. You port forward to it via the internet IP address it's located at, allowing clients from the doctors office to RDP to it to run some basic scheduling and billing application. Does the amount of encryption built into the RDP session meet the HIPAA standards? Do you have any concerns about someone taking advantage of known flaws in RDP to cause some havok?

If it's a pediatrician's office, use Dr. Seuss to send your message:

Do you like stream eggs and ham?
I do not like it, said Admin I-am
I do not like it on the net,
I do not like it when it's wet,
It takes up too much space,
It takes up too much place,
Here or there?
Admin does not like it anywhere
Would they listen at their house?
Would they listen with a mouse?
You do not like it here or there,
You do not like it anywhere
Go and listen on the train,
Go and listen in the rain,
Just do not listen here or there,
Admin watches everywhere.

Dante: [to Randal] You never go ass-to-mouth!
Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

you didn't answer my other questions!

haha, I love the small offices that do what I've described. Still not sure that meets the standards for encryption, you should consider using a software vpn or better yet a hardware vpn to secure and always on tunnel.

Since they are a ped. office they probably could care less about the governmental meaningful use requirements but an EMR is a good start. What are they using?

I just used an RDP vulnerability to hack into your server. I'm now selling the CC and SS numbers of all the patients on a website based out of the Caribbean. You could have at least used ports other than 3389, I didn't even have to do any searching!
