Local store to pickup headphone amplifier?

Not sure if this belongs in geek squad...so took a chance and put it in open forum.

Anyway, looking for a headphone amplifier, something to amplify my Asus Transformer sound output, into my headphones. Seems the sound output is low on this thing, and so with the hum of airplane engines, people talking, babies crying, etc...I sometimes have trouble watching movies or whatever. I have good headphones, really good headphones, but they can only play what is given to them from the tablet.

Tried Fry's and Best Buy locally (no luck there)...I can buy on Amazon, and will, if I can find one for this weekend.

Any helps is appreciated.

Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-e5-E5-Hea...hone+amplifier

Pete, what kind of headphones? It could be an impedance mismatch that's making the sound card sound weak. Have you tried other/better headphones?

It's 4 different sets of headphones I've tried. One really cheap set, one middle of the road, and 2 higher end quality headphones. Plus, the volume isn't too loud when playing externally through the speaker either.

amazon warning !!!!

Updated 7/15/2012: It turns out, after reading posts by the Fiio representatives on the head-fi site, that there is rampant counterfeiting of this amplifier, and the product I bought matches the counterfeits being sold by some of Amazon's partners. Make certain that the partner you pick for buying Fiio products is an approved Fiio distributor.

Speaker amp and headphones amp aren't necessarily the same amp.

Just making sure it wasn't a headphones issue. Some people buy $350+ headphones with a high impedance, and are shocked when everything is at half volume. Those types of headphones need a more robust amp.

I hear ya, thanks. Ya, it's definitely just low output all together from the tablet.

As LR stated, watch those ohms.

I got a set of Audio Technica HT50's for xmas. 38ohms so it will pull from whatevr source i'm using.

If your connecting to a mobile device, even a computer you will want something 50ohms or less

BTW, are you going to buy a good pair of headphones too or just looking to amplify what you got?

I ended up returning a pair of Beats by Dr. dre piece of shit headphones my wife got. She didnt know any better bless her heart. $325! ended up getting a set 1000x better for $200. Better from a musical standpoint.

anyway, no one around sells them as I've looked into it. I ended up getting the plans off teh net to build one. Something as portable as your looking for will have to be mail order.
