I did survive a few drinkin trips so far. That was tough, but because of that I've been drinkin less too.

The really hard thing is just when I'm home working on the computer. Thats when I want one the most.

Ya I hear ya, I would love to be able to have one socially once and a while, but I think its kinda like an alcoholic, where they cant just have one drink, If I smoke one I'll smoke a whole pack.

Congrats, Tony - you CAN do it!

I was a 3-pack-a-day'er for nearly 10 years... went cold-turkey in 1990 and haven't had one since. Just decided I didn't want to smoke any more. Smoking is gross, and there are SOOOOO many other things you can do with that $....

Congrats and keep it up... It is not easy but it is possible.

Smoked since I was young, too young when I think about it. I have quit and picked it up several times. Maybe this coming year I can be done for good.

Smart move quiting cold turkey!

I'm on week 2 of quitting as well. Last five times I tried quitting, I either used gum, patches, lozengers or chewing tobacco. Every time I made it a month or two, went off the helpers and started smoking again within a couple weeks. Cold turkey is the only way to go.

Congrats and good luck Tony!

Same here (exactly two weeks), can't say I have been perfect but I haven't bought a pack. I've lit up a couple times when I was drunk, actually tasted like shit and I would put it out. I quit for 11 months a year and a half ago, had an extreme family situation which contributed to smoking again, but I think it's for good now. Good luck to you!

Tony, I grew up in a house of smokers and when I was 12 - 13 I started smoking. When I was dating my wife who does not smoke, it changed my life. She told one night I can put my lip on her or on a cig. You make the choice but you can't do both. I quit cold turkey and never looked back. You will want to have one every now and then and that is natural but after awhile the urge goes away.

I have had a few in the past few months but never bought a pack. One night I came home and said enough is enough. I am not going to say I may never ever have a social smoke. I will say that once you stop yours lung start to repair themselves and I like life to much to shorten it by smoking.

Your body is glad that you stopped smoking in more ways than one. Just becareful not to start eating in place of smoking. That can be a bad habit also.

Keep up the good lungs my friend.

Very cool Tony, but I just hope you stick to it! I’m behind you 100%. It helps when you have kids; a lot of kids have problems because of parents smoking. My daughter has asthma and it's not fun. Her grandparents (bi#ch, opps her mom's side) smoke and they say they don't when she's around, but the smoke smell is in everything. And now since you don't smoke, you can take up drinking as a hobby

that sounds very familiar

I haven’t had a cigarette myself since Brian quit last fall, even though I was only a social smoker, 3 – 5 cigarettes per week

Keep it up Tony!!!

Damn, another 3 packer I use to run in the mornings and smoke on my run I quit cold turkey, 5 years ago, all it takes is will power and the ability to tell yourself you can go 5 minutes without one, it's all about 5 minutes at a time

Congrats....I heard an interview a few years back with Ozzy Osbourne and he stated that he quit drinking, coke, heroin, ludes and all the other drugs but just can't seem to quit smoking. He said trying to quit smoking is worse than any of them.
