Valve job

Spent the last few years with some shortness of breath. My strength has never been a problem and with many years of defense training I've never felt at a loss in the whole tuff guy thing.

BUT today I found out next week I'll be having open heart surgery to repair a failing aortic valve.
Funny how mortal I feel now.

It's called Aortic stenosis a calcium build up over the course my life time has taken its toll.

FYI this is NOT diet or lack of exercise.Although it has limited much more than a brisk walk around the block for the last few years.

Good news is the doctor says I'm in great shape and my heart is strong. It will be nice getting my wind back.

Please wish me luck and pay a fair price for my bikes if it does not go well.LOL

Gus

Best of luck. Get well soon. Ask if they can do a "performance" valve job or maybe throw in a bigger camSHAFT with longer duration.

Good luck Gus. You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

We are begining to coordinate my daughters 3 surgery for Aortic stenosis. Her most recent was about 4 years ago.

FYI, you'll feel like crap, until that chest tube (for fluid drainage around the heart) comes out. That is your goal point, be patient, once its out, you'll feel great. The change in patients is visible, trust me.

Take care.

If you need something let us know.

I know a lot of people get nervous about surgery, but having spent most of the past 12 years in OR's I can tell you that there is little to be nervous about. These Dr's , Nurses, recovery staff etc do this stuff all day long. It's as simple to them as you cleaning a carb. Try and relax and enjoy the meds. Recovery is never that fun but it's a means to an end that will hopefully see you better off. Heal up quick.

Hope all goes well!! (have the valve guides replaced after getting the valve ground and lapped! )

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

Valve job

I had open heart surgery 8 months ago because they had to do a triple bypass. Btw,Im also healthy,I exercise and take care of myself(cardiac problems run in the family)I must admit I was very scared but I'll be honest, it's not that bad. Yes,the recovery is slow and uncomfortable of course but there is no words to describe how good I feel now, physically and mentally. For sure it does give you another point of view about life and stuff. All I can say is that you have to stay positive man. You will be fine, best of luck!!
