no more free Photoshop!!

Damn counterfeiters had to go and ruin it for everyone....

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...a4798_2004jan9

not only is there new anti-counterfeiting features.. the story earlier read that there would be a new 'feature' that would defeat the copying of the Photoshop software by alerting Adobe and disabling use of the software on the PC. Wonder why they conveniently 'edited' that out?

But wouldnt that involve hacking into someones PC to do that? And if I'm not mistaken, hacking to destroy is a more serious crime than copywrite infringement.

Yes but they could hack around it.

The RIAA didnt exactly 'hack' into computers, they could simply browse peoples shared folders who gave P2P networks access to their mp3 folders. ANd even then they didnt erase files AFAIK.

Maybe if they didnt make thier software so damn expensive people wouldnt pirate it and they would sell more.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

I hope you're not saying that objecting to the price justifies pirating?

Yes, the new version phones home to activate. It also phoned home after I did a defrag. Hopefully it's not going to phone home every time I defrag.

You can bet I'll be complaining if it does!

Anyone ever hear of opensource. Right now software is not at the level of retail, but there is a free software called Gimp that most casual photoshop users would be able to use.

http://sourceforge.net

There are tons of software titles there, and the coolest thing is that you can actually help code them. And no you do not have to be a programmer, you can help break(I mean test) or just write a manual.

The article posted above isn't talking about anti-piracy... it's talking about built-in measures to prevent people from making scans of paper money. This was on The ScreenSavers (on TechTV) last week. With the new Photoshop software, if you try to scan a $20 bill, you get a popup telling you it's a no-no, and won't let the scan continue.

the article on yahoo when it was first published DID talk about anti-piracy of the software itself not the counterfeits.. however it was edited during the day. It even had quotes from Abode refering to anti-piracy initiatives.
