Stupid water leak!

Well, I came home from the gym Monday night and walked into my closet. And my socks got soaked instantly. So, that's just what I needed to deal with on a Monday night at about 8:00. So, I called the maintenance dept for my complex and my buddy the supervisor was on call. So, he came over and we tried to find the leak. After some investigation and listening very closely, we were able to tell the leak was coming from inside my bathroom. So... Got the saw out and started hacking. First in the ceiling... no water. Then in the wall... still no water. Hmm... Then over a little farther. BINGO. Well, after some more sawing, and some insulation removal, we found the leak (which by the way was now spraying across the bathroom onto the oposite wall. And of course it was the hot water pipe that sprung. So, there is this hot ass water spraying all over my bathroom. Great. Well, we diverted it for the night, (see bottle with bottom cut out attached to hose) and drained the leak into the shower. They were going to have a plumber come out yesterday to shut the water off, (only one central shut off for the entire building) fix the pipe, and then turn the water back on. Well, it turns out that the plumer was in jail yesterday and couldn't stop out... So, still leaking. Oy! But the worst part is, the water ran down the inside of the wall, and because the foundation slopes away from this wall, the water ran under my bathroom an into my walk in closet. So, there is water underneath my lanolium (sp) tile in the bathroom that will have to come up, the carpet in my closet will have to come up (it's already begining to smell) and the wall will take like a week to dry out! Geeze!! Oh well, thanks for listening... I'm just venting.

Plumbers' in Jail!! Thats funny!

So there is only 1 plumber in your area huh?

Not to sound like the ass i am but they sell tape (rubber butyl with something else in it) at Home Depot that all you do is wrap this tape 2 inches above the leak and tight wraps 2 inches below the leak and back up again. It works awesome! I use it frequently on 3" hot water mains. Lasts for months and months!

So my next question is..........Do they let you pick out the new colors for walls and linoleum?

Well, this is all contracted out through the corp office. And as far as the leak goes, it's not leaking in the wall anymore. So, the tape thing isn't really necessary unless you ment to leave it like that for good. Which in that case, it doesn't sound like that great of an idea. We'd be cutting the damn wall open again in a few months.
Thanks for your imput, ass, er Kelly.

Yeah, that sucks! My old condo had one shutoff for the whole building of six units also! What Einstein came up with that idea?

The individual faucets had their own shutoffs but if you had to replace one of those the only option was to shut off the whole building.

COuld be worse. My friends old apt (the whole 2nd floor above a insurance agency) had HIS circuit box IN the insurance agency. So if his fuses blew, he had to call teh landlord and have him come over to change it. Hows that for dumb?
