It really depends what's available in your area, DSL(through you phone line) can be a good deal. I have RCN cable and a cable modem and it's about $85.00/month for both with an HBO package. Comcast is pretty pricey but you have to get digital service for premium channels. If you're only getting internet without cable I think DSL is the best bang for the buck.

Cable. Without a doubt!

Yeah DSL is good but cable is the best. Fastest and most reliable from experience.

yeah for 26.95 you might as well get DSL. Youll end up paying a little under that for crappy dial up...

85.00 a month???? I don't pay for my cable service, but the cable internet I think is 35.00 to 45.00 and if you get basic cable service, it the same price. If I had to pay for the cable internet, I would, it's GREAT!!!!!!!!! and I don't have a phone at home, so another great reason to get a cable one.

It's not 85$, at work Monday I'll find out the price for you. If you want I'll PM you with the info. I know we (Comcast) have tons of deals right now. I don't do service stuff, but I know this, if you get cable interent, it's cheaper to get basic cable too. For some reason if you have cable internet only it's more than cable internet and basic cable together.

Dial up is awesome I don't sit around for hours, wasting valuable time, downloading MPEG's of Apache doing a number on Iraqis, or watching porn, or listening to music......wait I can do that on dial up. Dial up for simple internet connection is just fine, now if you want to sit around for hours and be some weird Neo type dude, go hi-speed all the way, I have got better things to do

DSL Vs Cable

You may not be able to have dsl do to location. If you using sbc phone service you would get good deal with them. They will send you self in install kit. Cable has gotten pricey for service I pay $45.00 with basic cable I use DIsh for TV. Down fall is more people use cable online your block the more it slows down that cable high speed access. DSL doesn't have that problem., but you need to be close to central switch station. Yes you can surf be on the phone. My .02

If do go cable buy your own modem from best or compusa. Save little on rent fee a month. They charge $4.95 a month to use theres.

DSL

DSL all the way baby! I've had DSL for over 5 years now and I don't know what I'd do without. Love it.

Comcast Cable is great! I've had it for about 1 1/2 years now and have had no problems. I pay about $50 a month for it.

Get a cable modem. More reliable than DSL in my experiences.

The cablemodem by my place is about $50/month and definitly worth it. It's quite a bit faster then dial up, and the best part is no disconnects or dialing. Great way to simplify life on the net. (I don't have cable TV, only internet) Cable Co. is called "WOW" Wide Open West.

They have less channels. And it's funny, I talk to people who have WOW and they want comcast, and people who have Comcast, want WOW. I thinks it's funny. And just wait until VOD (Vidio On Demand) comes out, you won't even have to go to Blockbuster again, any move even made, any time, and if you have it, if you miss the 5:00 news on channel 2, you can watch it anytime you want until the next day at 5:00 and same for other programs like the Simpsons, or HBO stuff like the Surpranos, if you miss it, you can watch it anytime you want until the next one the following week. I think movies will be about 2.99 or so (depends on movie) a movie and you can stop it, FF, RR, pause it. And you have the movie I think for 24 hrs. It's still in the works, it's being tested in some areas.

The more I read this thread, the more I like my dial up service And I'm seriously thinking dropping digital cable and cable too, what a waste of money. I sucessfully slept thru another epsiode of Two Wheel Tuesday, what boring crap, and that's the worse looking bald white guy I have ever seen, he should let his hair grow back, his head looks like a giant zit. I have the cheapest basic cable package you can have which I think is 7 bucks, plus the internet, total bill is 50 bucks.

Then I use satelite for everything else. and a local antenna for my Hi-def locals.

Two Wheel Tuesday was the reason that I switched over to digital cable (also having multiple Showtime's, HBO's was a plus). At first, it was OK, then they switched it to the 2nd most expensive package. I still upgraded to that package. Then they switched it over to NASCAR and I had it switched back to regular cable.

Rick, I am with you. There are enough channels covering 'custom choppers' and the how to. I mean come on. How many custom choppers do you see on the road? I do not see that many at all. I don't mind a balanced show but cut out the crap. I really don't want to see him climb a freaking rock. Show me some bike info. There is plenty of bike info out there that can be entertaining and worth watching but showing me the Bostrom brothers with their shirts off climbing a rock is not what I think Two Wheel Tuesday watchers are wanting to see.
