Surgery

Well about a week ago I was involved in a work related incident that resulted with me having 6 facial fractures. Doc wants to go a put a plate next to my nose where it attaches to the cheek, straighten my nose and install a plate above my left eye to stabilize the bones around my sinus cavity. All this to prevent facial deformities and help prevent reoccurring sinus infections in the future.

My question is, has anyone here had facial type surgery before and if so, how did it go? How bad was the swelling? How long did it last? How long were you in the hospital/what was recovery time?

You wanna see my itinerary?

Wow sorry man. Work related? I'd imagine a lawyer might make it so you don't have to work again.

My buddy had surgery to his upper cheek bone and has a scar because of it. 3-4 weeks of swelling. He grew a beard and you can't tell but be careful. Hope all goes well.

I'm not a doctor nor an expert but I would advise you get a second and possibly a third opinion from experienced facial surgeons. Don't ever go with only one doc's opinion when it comes to surgery. Facial fractures can have long term effects on your future health. It can effect your breathing, your sight, even your ability to talk and eat. Your options may be few so get good advice.
Good luck...I hope you post up in a few weeks that all went well and you're doing fine.

Yea the doc gave me the option to not do anything but stated that doing nothing could result in the muscles/tendons pulling on the bones causing deformities and problems there and then the fractures above my eye to cause reoccurring sinus problems because they intrude into the sinus cavity.

He says since the fractures are fresh he doesn't have to rebrake anything just stabilize it. He seems to me to be very confident after doing this sort of thing in Boston. I talked to one other person on the job who has 6 plates in from cage fighting she does on the side and it seems to not be an issue for her either. I just have a bit more anxiety about this one vs my other surgeries I've had.

You wanna see my itinerary?

Thanks all surgery will be tomorrow. I just hope I can still be a super model when all is said and done. I've got bills to pay.
