From '06 iMac to '13 MacBook Pro - WOW

Well, I was running the old '20 inch iMac Desktop since 2006 and finally pulled the trigger on the Laptop - Repositioned the iMac within the house and now have the '13 inch Retina Display MacBook Pro and fucking love this thing

Less than 4 lbs, plenty of storage and speed and the cat at the Apple Store in Old Orchard spent about an hour with me walking me through all the options of and how they align with my needs - Turns out the bottom end '13 inch does it all for me - Dude NEVER once tried to push me to a higher end '13 inch or even the '15 and even pointed out options regarding Data Migration from my iMac to the MacBook

Walked in the store at 11am, left at noon, came back at 5pm and they had all my shit swapped over and fuck me this MacBook is fast as hell - The old '20 is still chugging along, just pulling different duties now.

Oh and my IP5S is still rock solid too without any of the issues I keep reading about

Love the fruit!!!!

The G/F is looking at a Pro 13". She's getting sick of Windows.....and keeps seeing my integration with the MacMini and the phone / iPad.

Love my new 5S. No issues either.

A true testament to the Mac Platform is the '20 inch in the other room now - 8 years old in 2014 and still chugging along - Tad slower now and taken the OS Upgrades as far as I can with the 2006 guts and the ONLY thing I ever had to do with it was replace a fan - 8 years and no issues - Tough to even say that about any product these days

I look at the MB Pro as an investment now as the iMac showed me that clearly

Do you have a time capsule?

I am getting my gf a 27" iMac next week to replace her 13" MacBook and the time capsule will transfer all her data, apps and programs.

Then she will have her 27" iMac, her iPad with retina display, her iPhone 5 and the 13" MacBook Pro she uses at work.

LOVE the fruit.

Don't trust a time capsule alone. They are known to fail. I have an airport extreme and a USB hard drive hooked to it. Works the same as a time capsule, cheaper and 3tb of storage.

This!

TC are way over priced. All hard drives fail tho, just a matter of time.

Also, don't trust Time Machine alone. If what you have on your computer is important to you, don't rely on a single "backup". I use Time Machine but also have a separate cloned copy of my hd so I can be back up and running in minutes if things go bad. Plus a 3rd copy of my wives photo library, because if that goes missing I know I'll be in a world of hurt

Yes, more extensive than other laptops but as I stated earlier, when I can get 8 years out of my last Mac, that is $$ well spent to me

Steve, the 13 inch with Retina Display starts at $1300 - Before i went in the store and chatted with the guy, I thought "I need the 15 inch with the most RAM and shit like that" - Turns out after I explained what I need and how I would be using it, the bottom of the one 13 inch is perfect for me

Steve,

Come on out to the deer park apple store and we can use Alexis's teacher I'd to get a discount. That and the tax savings will be worth the trip.

Didn't realize there was one out there at I pass it a couple times a week going to Julia's house. I am not ready to pull the trigger but when I do that sounds like a plan. Thanks Denny.

I bought a unibody 13" macbook (variant of current mbp) back in 2008, 5 years ago.
Its been a flawless workhorse to this day. Upgraded my HD to SSD and its still faster than most new laptops.

Don't know what Steve's needs are, but Macbook Air works great for most people. Extremely convenient to carry and hold. Plus 12 hour battery life.
