Razor "Dirt Rocket" MX 350 or MX500...

Hey,

Anyone have any experience with these little electric dirt bikes for kids? I'm thinking about picking one up soon for my 4.5 year old. He's been riding a bike w/o training wheels for over a year and does great. He's been asking for a "Power Wheels" Jeep or something (his friend has one) but I think this would be way more fun (the MX 500 can go about 16 or 17 mph and has front and rear suspension). I showed hm a video of a kid riding one and he thought it was "awesome"

I would love to get him a little PW50 or something and might later, but he wouldn't be able to ride that around the neighborhood (some jerk would complain for sure). One of these electric bikes he could ride on the sidewalk, in the big field by the park or even around the retention pond behind our house w/o any complaints.

So main, question is...do they hold up? Will the battery last? The MX 500 is about $150 more (but still only around $350 if you shop around). I'd go with this slightly bigger bike if it will last b/c he wouldn't out grow it as fast (could be fun to zip around the hood on for years).....however if the whole thing will be trashed after a year or two (need a new expensive battery, etc.) there is no good reason to spend the extra b/c for now the smaller one would be fine.

...recommendations?....thoughts?

Thanks!

Frank

Hello. I bought my son an MX500 (36 volts) and he used it for a few years. I was going to get him an MX350 (24 volts) but it was too small for him. Big difference in size between the two. I wouldn't use it on the sidewalk as it goes pretty fast. The 500 can go 15mph depending on rider's weight. Battery charge last for about 1 - 2 hours. I use ride my motorcycle around the subdivision and he follows me with the Razor. Batteries are old now and they are expensive so it's just sitting in the garage right now plus my son's outgrew it.

Thanks for the responses! The Oset looks awesome (I want one), but I'm not into spending the "big bucks"

TMY7R, so I could expect to get a few years before needing to replace the batteries? How is the rest of the overall quality? I haven't seen one in person yet, I was going to order from Overstock.com because with coupon it was $350 shipped, but now they are out of stock. Is it easy to ride at slower speeds if desired (throttle control) or can you adjust to limit the amount of max throttle. The smaller one (MX 350) would probably be better for my son at this age but worry in a year or two (he's as tall as his 6 year old friend) he would benefit from the larger model. From my best pricing (if I can get the Overstock deal again), the MX 500 is only around $125 more.

Thanks again,

Frank
