What killed this site? Quick update

Been a member for quite some time, but seems like a ghost town since the sale. Did I answer my own question?

I believe I posted back in 2009 that I bought a project track bike. My dumb self bought it when I was still broke in college, making poor decisions with my financial aid money. Fast forward to 2012, got a job and this past winter ended up putting time and money with a goal of riding on the track this summer.

Finished the bike and have been riding STT events at Grattan and Gingerman. This is fricking addicting and expensive. I've always wanted to ride on the track since I started riding. Better late than never.

Pic of bike attached

Anyhow, I'll stop in every once in a while, good to see some old names still posting....

Nice looking bike, and it seems that you have some nice bits on it.

Yes, it can be addictive. Make a budget and stick to it.

social media is a big factor.

While the sale to new ownership is also factor I'd make the argument that many of the key members(frequent posters, moderators, trolls even) stopped riding or became otherwise occupied and things just dropped off.

I lurk but haven't ridden in years now and find I don't miss it that much. I do miss the camaraderie.

People are fickle by nature.

Good looking track rig - and smart to make as many questionable, motorcycle related financial decisions while you're young enough to rationalize and enjoy them. I've been looking to get another bike for the last few years. 15 years ago I would have pulled the trigger a dozen times by the end of the week - credit score be damned - and figured out how to pay for it later.

Now I have the means, but find it's MUCH more difficult to justify the purchase against other "life stuff". I'm hoping that attitude shifts quickly once the kid is old enough to not need me anymore - which should be any day now.

Regardless - I think I've checked CLSB pretty religiously since I joined. Here's hoping that facepage closes and we all come back where we belong.

Facebook put a hurting on the Forums, then to make it worse they ( the new owners)made is that you had to DL their mobil app and tapatalk quit working.

I only visit 2-3 forums these days. and I even removed tapatalk from my phone.

I may have ridden on the street a handful of times, since selling my bike before starting college in '07. When I actually got the bike running early spring, with some fresh tires, I had to take it for a spin around the block for a quick shakedown. I needed to know if I was dumping money into a bike that doesn't run right! Slowly putted around the block a few times, for many reasons. Cold tires, snow on the ground, not being on a bike for many years and no plates.

Bike handled fine, engine sounded fine, but still wanted the added confidence that engine was mechanically sound. So, I brought the bike to a local shop for some dyno runs. HP/Torque numbers were in line with what I've seen on other forums, so that made me more at ease.

Funny thing is, fastest I've been on a bike since selling my bike was maybe 25 mph. Even in novice group down the straight, we were probably hitting well over 120 down the straight at Grattan (I haven't really looked down at speedo).

Overall, I'm happy with this project. I'm the type of person that has too many hobbies, I don't really become GREAT at any single one, but I'd be happy if I were at least good at every one. Told myself (and the gf), that I'd be happy if I went the the track 4 times a season. I'm going on 8 or so and don't see myself stopping anytime soon!

We'll see, maybe next year I'll get into something else, or not.....and get married....who knows?

Check out link below, first time riding Grattan in I group. (absolute rollercoaster, might I add)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0s...ew?usp=sharing

thanks for reading =)

I come on the forum everyday. I can post in threads but for some reason while at work it won't let me start new threads as it times out. This is one reason I do not post very often.

well its not completely dead.lol. I'll check it out a couple times a week and mainly interested in the dirt riding forum. I tend to post up if I'm getting ready for an enduro, hare scramble or major road race (Daytona).

I wish it were more active. I ride to work most days and either road/enduro/harescramble race 1-2 times a month. In the winter I'm on the lake 2-3 x a month on the ice.

Was thinking of getting off the street when I stopped teaching the MSF stuff but still like it for commuting and running errands.

Still riding and buying bikes like I was when I joined - Just much slower (hard to imagine huh?) and the bikes are too

I miss the EMR threads/posts.....I guess it's now team MWC (married with children )

I still have the V11, but it's difficult to get out for a ride with all the other responsibilities that take precedent.

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

I got rid of my 2002 gsxr 1000 back in 2004. Bought a new leftover 2014 back in May. When I came back on here to see what was going on I was shocked at how slow it had become.

I still check in once or twice a week. Picked up an older Interceptor 800 earlier this summer because the supermoto couldn't handle long rides. Been using it to commute to and from work mostly but hope to hit the Smokies before the season is over.

Gotta give it a week Bart.

Is no 'new' forum. Even the FB group for CLSB is dead (other than ads). Another one was tried but didn't take. www.chicagolandbikers.com

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Well, I did unload the '48 and picked up a 2015 Dyna Street Bob and spent Friday at Stan's Ordering the Exhaust, Air Intake and Fuel Remap

Now, I am thinking of selling the Bonneivlle (my 2 upper and round town errand runner) and picking up a 2014 KTM 690 Duke - Not really a Sumo as it has not the exhaust for off road but it can do 2 up and monos with G2G and Stan all day all day
