DIY Community Garage Open House - MotoGarage

Hi all,

It's been about 5 years since I originally posted on this forum about an idea that merges a hackerspace concept with a DIY garage (https://www.chicagolandsportbikes.com...d.php?t=107209). Well, we did it! We're having an open house Sunday, November 8th. The shop (www.motogaragechi.com) is in Schaumburg at 600 Morse Avenue, Unit C.

I hope to see anyone from here at the shop! Thank you .

Here are some details from the posting;

Greetings Chicagoland motorcyclists!

We're almost all moved in to our new space and are getting ready to host our open house to kick off our User Testing Phase!! We would like to invite all of you to come and get your first look at our shop!

For those who have heard of us, here are the pertinent details!

Where: 600 Morse Avenue, Unit C, Schaumburg IL 60193

When: Sunday, November 8th - 11 am to 5 pm

What we have planned so far (will be updated frequently as we get closer to the date!):

- Demo of the bay reservation system
- Tour of the facility
- Sweet arcade action
- Sneak peak of our current member structuring draft
- Live Q&A with some of our team!
- Delicious Food!
- Class information and structuring system
- TBD

For those who haven't heard of us, MotoGarage is a community based DIY motorcycle garage. This means that we are not a repair shop nor our we a standard DIY garage. We have the bays, the tools and certified professionals to facilitate DIY work on your own motorcycle but the similarities end there.

Typically, a business emphasis maximizing the volume of people coming through the doors and producing monetary transactions each time. Because of our core goals, we're going a different direction.

From the start of our development back in early September of 2010 (over five years ago!), my dream has been to create a garage;

- that emulates a personal garage DIY feeling (in terms of cost and no time restrictions)
- brings together the community of fellow DIY enthusiasts
- that encourages you to get immersed in the art of mechanics and the camaraderie it fosters
- where you are free to learn, tinker and socialize without a timer or stop watch
- creates and promotes a co-op feeling level of involvement and member influence
- that is dynamic and under the direction of its members
- for those who take motorcycles seriously

In order to accomplish this, we are structuring our pricing model (which we will refine with your help during our free User Testing Phase) to be centered on one crucial aspect;

- Unlimited bay time for members!

Once the User Testing Phase is over and the memberships become available, we will cap the amount amount of memberships to ensure all members have access to the shop when they need it. In order to test this and to demonstrate the unlimited bay time feeling, we will be opening with a "User Testing Phase" in which bay time will be free. All bay time will be scheduled and reserved through SuperSass (and will be available on our website & Facebook page). Modifications to the reservation system will be put into place once testing is underway as needed (i.e. a limit to the number of consecutive days you may schedule). Directly after User Testing Phase, a set amount of memberships to MotoGarage will be available!

Classes will be available at the start of the User Testing Phase and beyond, prices will be announced shortly.

As this is developmental, any feedback you have will help mold the final membership benefits. Our current membership costs, benefits and structuring will be on our shop white board and open to your mark ups of ideas, comments and suggestions during the User Testing Phase.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thank you and we hope to see you at our open house!

Matt Milford
