In my E-mail today

National Secretariat Building
Block 6, Pad 2 Lagos.
Email:[email protected]

I am the Area Comptroller of Nigerian

Customs & Excise Department, in charge of

Zone ?A? with headquarters in Lagos.
There is this deal we discovered in my

department which I believe will be of

interest to you.
My Account Director discovered during

routine auditing of import duty proceeds,

that a particular importer{oil firm} was

overcharged import duty in excess of

US$20,000,000.00 (Twenty Million United

States Dollars only) for a period of 3

years. He is not aware of this overcharge.
Normally, this money is supposed to be

refunded to the importer concerned, but

because he doesn't know about it, I and the

Account Director have decided rather to seek

for a foreigner who will cooperate with us

to claim the money as the original owner.
This is done through the customs payment

procedure known as the Refund of Excess

Import Duty. The approvals for this refund

will be secured under my Department and

other agencies.
The deal is totally risk-fr ee. Our intended

partner is expected to cooperate fully with

us to achieve this. Must be trustworthy,

capable of handling a deal like this, and

above all able to keep this deal strictly

confidential. Within a short period of 14

working days of commencement, the business

is planned to be concluded.
We agreed also that 15% of the amount will

be given to you for your cooperation.
If you accept this proposal, send me email

on [email protected]

immediately for more information.
NB. I got your contact through a brochure

from your country in the World Trade Centre

Yours faithfully

I guess my ship has just come in....

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Last Week we received an email from SENEGAL. The Society for Family Health... who wanted a bid for 10,000 medical carts valued at 2.3 MIL $$$.... so one of the sales guys get's really HAPPY and bids on it. Geee to our SURPRISE... we got the bid. The papers that were emailed looked really official, and they want to transfer the whole sum to via wire. So I said... ok... something is not right. I decide to investigate the actual society and find that they have an office in Nigeria but not Senegal. No one even heard of the DIRECTORS that signed the "official" document. Next thing we know, we get another email from a lawyer who states he that the organization said we have to use him to finalize the deal. Geee we just have to wire him $5K as an advancement to start the paperwork. What was funny I said was that all these "lawyers" and the actual organization was not using landline telephone numbers... all were cell phones.

I can just imagine how many people get suckered into deals like these.

That particular one from Nigeria is called the Nigerian 419 scam. It's pretty hardcore. Thousands of people have been ripped off (literally losing everything they had) and one guy killed an embassy diplomat over it.
