Disk cleanup question

Im trying to run disk cleanup on my C Drive to get rid of old temporary internet files etc. When I click on disk cleanup it starts running and then kind of goes sleepy.. It says Calculating

--------

Compress Old Files

and it just sits there.

any ideas how to kick it in the ass or is there another way to delete old temp. internet files?

I didn't do one in 3 years and it took me six hours to run the whole thing. Then I had to defrag

I would go through the temp files as well as temp internet files, clean those out by hand... empty your recycle bin... and then try it again. Basically that's what disk cleanup does anyway. How much free space is available on the drive? I would also try a defrag FIRST. But remember there has to be 15% free space, and it's gonna take a while depending on how bad it is. And don't just do it once. Try to do it like 3 or 4 even 5 times right after one another.

I use "Fix-It 2000" to defrag. When i defrag the before I got the Fix-it program, it too 12 hours. I defrag the computer twice a month now using Fix-It 2000" It has other things on there and my computer runs great, now all I have to do is get Windows XP, I have Windows ME now and it sucks.
