that is a steep fine. There are tons of accidents like that, and ive known some cops who got rear ended from idiot drivers.

I wonder when they gonna do this to school zones. Those suv drivers are always gunning it through there. Safety for my kid not yours.

Ouch! $500 for the first hit and going up from there!
You know, I heard somewhere that more drivers were killed in work zones due to improper signage or warning and general worker neglect than workers killed. How about fining those guys? Half the work zone signs are a joke. I've got 1 work zone I pass on Lake Cook road just W. of Rand that has been reduced from 50 to 35 since last fall. I think it's approaching 6 months. There has been no work there for months. They just never finished sodding the shoulders.
I guess the Gov. doesn't want graft money from the the construction firms drying up. It's just another way to sock it to us.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

This bothers me, they have been wanting to do this for speeding all over the area for a long time now. but theres a privacy law preventing it from happening all this time. Now it looks like they are trying to skirt that law buy saying its a safety issue.

Will these cameras be able to catch the 10 construction workers "SUPERVISING" the one guy bustin' his ass?

On another note, all construction should be done at night or during off peak hours.

Yes but not for speeding. Only for Ipass violaters. Right now they are taking baby steps twords putting cameras everywhere. first it was the couple red light cameras downtown, then more of those. now these sppeding cameras but only in construction zones. this is getting rediculous, soon they will be everywhere. If they just put them all up now civil rights people would go nuts but if they take away our freedoms slowly people dont even notice.

They all have cameras. There are also a few intersections in Chocago somewhere that have cameras theta theyre writing tickets daily from. Something like 4,000 tickets a month for red light violations only! ! ! I think its on Milwaukee Ave and something

I think there is some form of these being used already. From what I have read, those little trailer like things parked at roadside, that flash your speed as you pass, are taking pictures if you speed.
I think they usually try word these ideas so that stupid people will yell HURRAH. How would this have helped in one of the examples cited?
Before you get into your vehicle . . . think about the lives of others, the children who are left behind by reckless drivers, the husbands, the wives," said Anna Johnson. Her older sister, highway worker Tina Ball, was killed by an accused drunken driver last September in an Interstate 57 work zone.

Lets see here. The guy was drunk enough to hit a pedestrian, but would have obeyed the speed limit?

How about this 1?
*Installing large road signs that read "Hit a Worker, $10,000 fine, 14 yrs in jail." Last year's strategy of using children's names and handwriting on warning signs "evidently wasn't enough," said Martin.

In South Dakota those could read:
Kill a biker Get 100 days in jail and work release after 30 days. Pay $11,000.00 fine.
Now there is parody for you.

This is disturbing.....What are they gonna do next? put a "cop in a box" every 1 mile on every interstate? highway, tollway, expressway?

Sorry but i do not agree with this at all. As far as having a trooper in a vehicle/construction vehicle is sneaky but fine. Not an automated device. i see bad things happening.

Last year they had troppers dressed like construction workers wioth radar guns and radios, calling out license plates to waiting patrol cars. that waas legal, this I'm almost positive is not. I just dont know ehre to find the law. they talked about it last year I think it was with all of the red light cams going up.

I agree, if a cop is there, the driver gets a ticket. Now if the camera get the plate # the owner gets a ticket. So if I use your car and you get a ticket in the mail, how can you prove that it wasn't you? I would have to confess and I can say "screw you"

How funny would it be to pull up late at night and hitch up one of the trailers and split. It could be deposited at any local trash pile.

Also, I remember reading an article about people vandalizing those speeder boxes in the UK, they have had them in place for some time now. I saw a picture of a few that had been....torched!!

This is fantastic. The fucking government is cracking down on us. It's not enough that we are taxed like we live in a communist country. Figure in all your property taxes, sales taxes, social sec, gasoline taxes, alcohol taxes, tollways... we keep probably 10% of what we earn. and now our wonderful democrats that you bastards helped elect, are pioneering the way for the rest of the country to take away our money and freedoms.

If they are able to identify all of these offenders and have their names readily available through automated systems, they will be able to track every single movement you make. Not only that, if you are on some kind of a watch list, they will be able to track your movements and figure out normal behavior patterns and if you do something unusual, you will have a red light go off.

I think disobedience is the only way to deal with these cameras. legislation is probably way too late, I'm sure the contracts have been bought and sold.

Hmmm, while I dont think cameras should be used to distribute citations, I also think that people should not be speeding in constructions zones while workers are present.

Here's a question... Are these cameras going to be issuing tickets at times where no workers or anyone is present, but its still considered a construction zone? I think thats bullshit.

If people do start getting tickets out of the blue, I can certainly see people going out and stealing or destroying the cameras.

The cops are out there, if they see you speeding fine - take the ticket. Cameras are a complete crock of shit.

If you want all americans to do the speedlimit, remove the speed limits.

No offense, seriously, no offense

But I am very sure that their motivation behind this is not to save lives. They may use that to gain public support, but the main motivation is $$$ and votes -- $$$ from the tickets they issue and more so the $$$ IL will receive from the Government, and to gain Union support/votes.

Sean,

The short answer is YES....it's considered a construction zone, and yes it's so much BS. On Golf Road, between Higgins and Roselle, last summer they did major construction, they left the construction signs up, no workers present, no construction equipment on site, the Schaumburg PD have been having a field day, construction speed limit is 35, the usually speed limit is 45, they are ticketing anyone doing 50, (I actually talked with one of the officiers) and I'll tell you, they are nabbing someone every, 2 or 3 minutes, they have 4 unmarked cruiser, red, blue, green and silver, they sit in my lot and I watch them all morning long, remember the fine is double in a construction zone. I keep thinking a very good lawyer can beat this kind of BS. Don't get me wrong, IF there are workers present, with equipment and you speed, you deserve what you get.
