Car insurance/accident question

A friend of mine got in an accident. It wasn't her fault. She was stopped at a stop light and was rear ended. The problem is, her insurance expired on Apr. 1 and she failed to pay the premium. However, she had every intention of doing so. The other driver had insurance, so his insurance company will be paying for the damages.

Will her insurance company still battle it out w/ the other guys insurance company once she pays the premium? Is there a grace period?

Thanks,

Doc

I had the same happen, but my insurance was paid. I didn't even tell my insurance. I made my claim with the person who hit me.

Depending on the insurance company, when it comes to renewal they just assume your going to pay your monthly premium as usual and renew you.
If she has a name brand insurance co. I don't see a problem.
Now if eagle man is taking care of her she might be flying solo!!!!!!

When my brother had his accident, his insurance company didn't even know about it (he got rear ended also). The person who rear ended him had statefarm and he put a claim with them. They paid him very fast and he was able to take the car to a body shop of his choice. I think your friend should do the same. There is also a way where your friend's insurance could have covered the costs, and then went after the insurance company that was at fault. But in this case i don't think ur friends insurance would cover it. I hope i explained it good enough.. im kinda tired and not thinking straight tonight...

I imagine there's a grace period of some kind. But your best bet is to call some state farm agent and ask them the question.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm just going to call my agent sometime today and play dumb.

Thanks all for the replies. I'll let you know what happens.

There is almost always a grace period. Usually 30 days. They will send out a second notice and say something like "we know you probablly forgot". Also, as she was rear ended, any mention of back pain will have a check in your hand even the ink is dry. I think, once they pay for the damages the case is closed. Aa she was rear ended a trip to the hospital really is in order. She may be in pain tomorrow. And no need to mention to her own company unless the hitters company refuses to pay.
