Transferring plates?

Anyone know what you have to bring with you to the DMV/currency exchange? I am transferring plates from one bike to another, and I don't know if they need the registration card from the old bike. What do I need to bring? And how much is it??

hmmmm let me think........When I did mine all I needed was the old registration and the new title. I think you could get away with just bringing the vin # though. Easy way to find out is call a currency exchange and ask.

Application to Complete
You must fill out the Application for Vehicle Title and Registration (form VSD-190).

Check Transfer or Title and Transfer if the applicant wants to transfer current plates.

The fee for Transfer Only is $15, and the fee for Title and Transfer is $80.

Make sure the correct vehicle information and the correct license plate number being transferred are filled in on the application.

Enclose the most recent vehicle registration identification card for the license plate number being transferred.

If the new vehicle will be owned by one person, but the last vehicle was registered in two or more names, the individuals whose names will no longer be appearing as owners on the new vehicle must release their interest in the license plates being transferred by writing and signing such a statement.

When You Cannot Transfer
If a company incorporates, the firm is considered a separate, incorporated entity, and plates cannot be transferred from the original company.

In Illinois, license plates belong to an owner, not the vehicle. Therefore, you cannot transfer ownership of license plates when you sell a car or transfer a title. You can only transfer license plates to another vehicle you own.

Yeah... what Puglsy said. You need to bring the title to the new vehicle, and the current registration card for the old vehicle. I guess that's why it says right on the card, "Keep this with vehicle." Otherwise, you have to pay for a new plate!
