Where do you guys/gals buy plane tickets?

Hey All, I going to San Diego in the middle of June and I need to buy 2 tickets. I haven't flown in over 10 years. Back then I would just give the local Travel Agent a call and they would set me up. Just curious, where do you all buy plane tickets these days? Online? Travel Agent? Hitch a free ride in the baggage compartment? Dress up like a Flight Attendant and hope no one asks who you are and what you are doing here? Thanks for any info.

So I wouldn't have to worry about where airline tickets comes from. I think my wifey uses the internet sites of any of the airlines, we are always flying on points so UAL. I know they have deals so hit UAL, try AA too.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

Actually, try the airline website that you are looking at flying with. I have found that I can get the same deal, IF NOT BETTER from the actual airline. However, when booking full vacations, ie all inclusives, I would go through a travel agent. But if all you're looking for is an airline ticket, go to the actual airline.

if you don't mind playing roulette with the times you'll get then try priceline or hotwire.com. I did that for my ski trip last month and it was dirt cheap compared to orbitz.

if you want to pick out your exact times for your flight then either orbitz or travelocity for the search and then doublecheck with the airline directly to see if there are any specials.

(chills will kill me but) I like the interface better on travelocity than on orbitz. I just booked a flight & hotel for next week and travelocity found the better price and hotel combo for me

I live about 10 minutes from Midway, so I go with Southwest whenever I can. Hence, my choice...southwest.com

I agree southwest or ata for flying cheap. I think that every Tuesday, ATA runs a sale on tix. Good luck.

Ditto southwest.com they usually have great deals and the customer service on the plane is good

That's the only airline I've ever flone due to them always being the cheapest when I went looking.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

BTW Jon...Southwest does fly to San Diego while ATA doesn't, ATA only flies into L.A. which is about 2 hours away drivin'. San Diego's airport is wild, it's right smack dab in the downtown area.

When you do get to San Diego, check out Seaport Village, cute shops by the ocean (if you're into that) and also the Gas Lamp district where all the bars are at.

If ya gotta chance to rent a bike out there (not sure where though) check out Mulholland drive by the Hollywood sign in L.A. When Shane and I were there we took our rent-a-car on it and it was pretty fun.

Oh, also make sure you make it down to PB (Pacific Beach) and also take a drive onto Pacific Coast Highway...very fun! There's also Del Mar on the other side of the Coronado Bridge. There are signs on the bridge for seeking counseling if anyone was thinking of jumping off. Apparently according to my cousin they have about at least a few jumpers a year (I know it's not funny but it kinda is).

Have a good time. I love San Diego! If I had more family there that's where we would really be!!! Damned the parental units for stopping in Chicago and not going straight to California when we decided to immigrate here from the Philippines 18 years ago!

ditto. I strictly fly united (hey when your father is a 35 year emmployee, you get kinda attached to one airline) and yes I have to buy my own tickets now, i only flew free till i was 18)

but i always buy direct from united.com not only are they cheaper than orbitz etc, i also get 1000-5000 bonus miles direct from them for signing up. I just pirchased tickets to california for next week. United had them for $320 while all the other "travel sites" had them for $344. why because, each adds there own markup of $10-$20 per ticket.

I must say you should try ORBITZ first. Of course I'm a little biased, but for airfare they have the lowest rates. They were started by the big 5 airlines and they get the lowest fares from them. They also have good airfare/hotel packages. And check out their Customer Care... especially the Flying Forecast

That being said, check out Southwest.com. They usually have low prices and Midway rarely has any delays.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I look around on all of them, including the airlines themselves. AA is pretty good with prices. Most of the time I end up going to cheaptickes dot com thought.
