PDA's / Palm?

Okay gizmo gods---i am in the market for a PDA. I had a palm pilot IIIxe and it was sufficient but crapped out on me.

I would like to get a new one but what is the "Best bang for the buck" out there?

Now i do not want to spend a shitload of money but give me advice on good products i should look into. Obviously it will be for apps and contacts but the more the better. I also liked the convienence of regular batteries but i think those are out dated! Thanks in advance...........

Do you care if it has wireless capabilities built in? Color/black&white? Upgradability important or not?

i do not need wireless. I guess color would be cool though but does it kill the battery (EOL) faster?

BTW wireless as in internet? Definitly not.

Uprgradeability? Memory you mean i assume? sure if its not a ton of money.

did you buy any software for your old Palm that you want to continue to use? If so, then I guess you have to get another one of those.

The one I got last November is kinda big but I like it. It has builtin WiFi. I went with the Palm Tungsten|C because it had better integration with both my Mac and PC worlds.

If I only had to live life in a PC world then I'd probably get a PocketPC PDA instead that has bluetooth and/or WiFi capabilities. Gotta love the gadgets that help keep you organized AND connected to your other hobbies. (I'm typing this up now on my PDA while sitting at the airport waiting for my flight to Dallas. VNC connection back to the computer at home is awesome )

I've had two palms m505 and the one I use now the tungsten e. I the middle I had a Windows CE unit from compaq and much prefer the palm overall. the tungsten e is a good value for what I use it for mostly work and over 2k names in my contact list.

Kelly,

I have one for sale...a palm, don't remember which one at the moment, built in camera, and full size keyboard with it, packaging was opened (was a Christmas gift) it has never been used. I'll PM further info. It should be worth about 250 on the market, I've been meaning to ebay it....but I go busy

I dont want to burst anyone's bubble here, but I strong recommend not to buy a Palm. My Sony Clie was better then any of the palms, even the expensive ones, during it's time. And yes I can prove it, I had the thing benchmarked.

Labdog,

Look at the operating system. If you like Palm...buy a Palm based unit. You can get a Zire for around $99. The new Windows Mobile 2003 operating system that ships on Pocket PC deivces is pretty awesome. Most PPC devices start around $200+. It has complete synch with your Windows host computer. Plus it can run Excel, Word, and synch Outlook e-mail.

Dont sell wireless short...802.11b and Bluetooth. With the growing "hotspots" in Starbucks, McDonalds, Borders, major hotel chains, home networks...it can be very useful feature to have. The new HP iPAQs (4155 and 4355) have built in 802.11b WiFi and Bluetooth and can let you synch e-mail or surf the web. There are some awesome Bluetooth based GPS systems that can be used with PPCs that are also very cool. These wireless features give you future expansion. These things are becoming more than just PDAs. An inside track has a pretty cool device coming from HP that has cellular capability (from Tmobile), 802.11b, Bluetooth, and 1.3Megapixel camera all built into a new iPAQ coming by July 2004. I hear with TMobile service the unit could go for $479.00. Cant wait!

Shiny side up, rubber side down.
