update on housing situation

Well I came into Schaumburg today. i'm staying at a hotel near the mall with my girlfriend. We looked at a bunch of places all over. The only things I could afford that were decent were townhoes in streamwood and elgin. I didn't find anything I loved. there were 2 I really liked, but one was too far west and the other was too close to a major road so the road noise was way too loud. I have a lot more looking to do over the next few months. But it was good to go out because it helped me determined what I wanted in a house. So it's been a great experience.

I love Schaumburg, but yeah, it's expensive...

Streamwood is good, but there are some areas in that burb that have gotten BAD. Be careful and keep your eyes PEELED when observing your surroundings when on a viewing. Streamwood was a part of that government relocation of gov't subsidized housing, so just be watchful...some areas are still very nice.

Elgin, well, I'm from there. The West side has some nice new builds...affordable too, but kinda a commute to the city for work.

You're commuting to the city right? Check out Villa Park. They have some newer condos/townhomes close to the train line which will take you downtown in <30 mins.

A couple other ideas in the under $200m range...

No i'm not commuting to the city. I'm working in arlington heights. And from what is sounds like I'll only be in the office periodically as I see fit except for mondays when I'll be there at 8:30Am

Would you be willing to consider southwest burbs? Prices are lower vs. north

Like VoytekNt said, you may want to consider the southwest burbs. Arlington Heights is pretty accessible if you use I 355 to get there.

Usually the parking lot situation on I 55 doesn't start until a little bit further down after I 355.

Prices are definitely lower than up north, trust me...my family lives in the northwest burbs and Shane's family lives in the city and it's definitely cheaper and affordable where we bought here in Crest Hill.

Definitely more house for your money. I work in downtown Chciago and he goes to school in Glendale Heights. The commute is actually not too bad.

I Live in Oak Lawn, work downtown in addition my wife works in Wooddale (I drive her to and from work) so I do spend a lot of time in a car but it really isn't that bad.
Look at it this way this is the time when nobody is going to bother you, just you, the road and million other people surrounding you lol
Anyways, good luck with shopping around.
