Inoperable vehicles will be destroyed. Need yo help

Im glad, i looked at my hotrod magazine

heres a government watch that they have monthly.

"Illinois

If enacted, bill HB4910 would further restrict hot rodders from maintaining inoperable vehicles on private property. The bill removes historical vehicles over 25 years of age from a list of vehicles exempt from county inoperable vehicle ordinances if they are not kept within a building. This would let a county boards declare all inoperable vehicles a nuisance and order their disposal"

So does anyone have emails i should write to, to prevent this law from getting passed.

I find anything on private land shouldn't be considered a nusance unless it is a health hazard.

I do go out in the country and i always see people keeping old hot rods from the 60s and 70s. And it would suck seeing those destroyed because of a law.

Eventhough, i dislike "ricers" This is still "crushing" the people who actual restore and try to preserve automotive history.

i disagree. its mostly "crushing" those people that keep shitheap cars lying around their yard and driveway. This sounds like a nice law to improve neighborhoods and property values.

I agree with VCook. Any serious collector should do one of the following....

1) Build a shed to house the vehicle
2) place a securely fastened, full size car cover over the vehicle (not a blue tarp)
3) Provide sufficient vegitation such a trees or shrubbs to cover up the offending vehicle.

If you can't identify it in plain sight from a public road.... then let it be.

This law has been in effect. I think only at a city juristiction though. In the town I grew up in, they would sticker a vehicle that didn't have current tags or had not moved in a certain amount of time. Then the person had a month to register the vehicle or move it, or it would be towed and destroyed. Looks like the state is just catching up.

you are right about it being city juristiction.

locally around here. They were gonna ban RVs because some people thought it was an eye sore. But enough RV owners got together and it didn't go through. Im not sure if they will have future problems or they are still trying to do something about it.

And it isn't white trash people owning RVs. It is mostly people who retired and use RVs to travel cross country.

I agree partially with this but what about those people who are looking to restore thier cars and they dont make parts for the car anymore. yes these cars whould end up in a junk yard not just crushed. they could sell them to junk yards and make a profit from it. that way people can still salvage the parts. I hate laws like this they are to generalized what about those people who are keeping the car out side because they have no garage. and what about the hot rod shops does that mean they cant keep the cars they are working on restoring outside. I will join you in fighting this war fiero.

I totally agree and in fact i bet half the people would be glad to get the heaps of rust and rats nest OFF their property!

As far as motor homes. I HATE to see them parked in a driveway or in front of a house. If you can afford a 200,000 dollar monster you can afford a storage barn. I am talking the Busses here.

I hate when i push my stroller (OMNI ) and the sidewalk is blocked!

What's amazing to me is the heights of incredible stupidity that bring about stupid laws in the first place.

Some examples in my Naperville townhome community:

Someone want to do just what you have cited, rebuild a car in their driveway...that's right folks...in their driveway in a Naperville townhome community where your neighbors driveways are right next to yours.

Next thing I know, they have built a big plastic cage on their driveway, and are inside this cage sand blasting the chassis.

Another resident of the community buys a satellite dish. We have rules against mounting dishes on the front side of the buildings. Do you think this person would negotiate an appropriate position to mount this dish with the Board? If so, you'd be wrong...this person decided a good solution was to mount the dish to a piece of plywood, place it on his driveway, and run the cable under the garage door. The plywood was secured by setting two concrete blocks on the plywood.

That's right, these people did these things in a community where people move specifically to avoid these things.

Don't get me started about how stupid people can be! This is largely how STUPID laws end up on the books to begin with.

I kinda agree with you and then I agree with Vcook. I'm for letting a car sit as long as the doors aren't rusted off and the windsheld missing and stuff, it can be an eyesore would you like to live next to some guy who has 2 old rusted out junkers sitting in the front driveway? Not everyone can afford a garage or don't have enough room and as long you see improvement on the car, cool. I didn't get how this affected RV owners. Does it affect the people who store it (the RV) in the driveway over winter?

i was kinda confused as to if the law was already passed or not. .but i really hope they dont .. my father in law rebuilds hot rods and most of his best cars he has restored were from some private land.. he went up and asked the people if they wanted to buy it.. sure they looked like shit when they came in.. some body work paint .. and alot of hard work n love and those cars were all shiney new perdy .. id hate to see that have to end.. because of some goverment law bullshit if its on private land and like another said before isnt a health hazard leave it be i say..

I cannot stand the extent to which the state goes to prove a point. I understand about problems as extreme as Busadave stated, that's just straight up white trash in action. But when you don't have the means such as a garage to put a vehicle in and they fine you for BS eyesore violation, because your motorcycles have not been move in 4months(it was friggin winter ), that's going too far. Or when a car is parked on a driveway, (because it won't fit into the one car garage it's in front of), for some period of time( on private property mind you) and the car is in working condition and is probably the most attention grabbing vehicle on the block(70 Challenger) they consider it a deralict, w/out finding out first if the car even runs.

That reminds me , I gotta get my car from my inlaws sometime

I just don't think that they should go right to crushing, when the parts off of those vehicles can go to repair some of the cars that are still on the road. Hey Gov. Blowaguyoubitch, we use those parts to fix our cars genius That's what junkyards are for

I agree with this!

Most people who are going to be affected are not white trash. Most rebuilds are done over years of hard work.

Another twist. My friend was told to get plates and register a car that was in his driveway. It had no windows, tailights, headlights, or turnsignals. Obviously not street legal. It was his race car he uses every friday at grundy county speedway.

Neighborhood associations tell people what to do all of the time, it's sometime you agree to when you move there. This is slightly different, but nobody wants to live next to the guy with 3 cars in his lawn.

Hmmmm......that's why we have a government, that is why we get to vote them in or out of office. If you didn't have a government you would have a bunch of hillbillies turning YOUR neighborhood in a junyard. If you want to restore car, classic or not, DO IT IN YOUR GARAGE and not leave a pile of rusted metal in the drive. If you can't afford a garage, you can't afford to restore squat.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.
