Anyone shoot darts?

Or play in a league? I'm intersted in joining a league, but I'm not sure if I'm good enough. What's the average number of rounds with how many points does a usual league game of cricket take? I am usually out in about 12 or 13 rounds with a score of like 100... But my best ever (which was a few weeks ago) was 7 rounds with 50 points.

Do they give handicaps like in bowling? And is it teams? I have never played in a league or watched one, so I don't know.

Also, what weight do you use? What kind? How do you hold your darts? How do you stand?

Always looking for some pointers. Thanks.

<-------- Jeff

Hey baby! You ever been on the back of an expensive sportbike??

The more beer I drink, the better I shoot. Never shot on a league, only for fun at the bar with friends.

Play it whenever someone has a dartboard. Usually out in 10(cricket). Love 301 as well.

The holes in my head say otherwise...For Christ sake I feel like a salt shaker...

Pirate doesn't drink anymore, so I don't know if that'll be of much help.

Here, try this place. They have dart leagues.

I think it's really cool...I've been cutting down myself. Notice how he's inquiring about constructive activities? That's what not drinking does. I find it real admirable.

Here's another place that has dart leagues: http://entertainment.metromix.chicag...Metromix-Home-!PlaceDetail-23810,00.html

You'll have to copy and paste these links into your browswer cuz I'm not gettin' em to paste correctly. Still learning this forum software...

He'll be the best one out there because he's gonna have his head on straight.

I usedta play darts yrs back, never got in a league, but use to play in tournements at the bar. I played pretty decent at the time.

Ever wanna put something together for a nite of playing I might be up for it even though it's been so long since I played.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

Another...This one sounds like the best bet. Leagues twice a week.

There's one in Boys' Town too, but I don't think they prefer Jeff's kind there (non drinkers).

No wait --- THIS one's the best: They have kind of an "open mic" night of dart playing...Show up, they'll team you up, and you play.

Can you say PRIZE MONEY??? One of the lower prizes is a case of beer though, so that won't interest Pirate much...

I have never been in a league, but I am starting to join tournaments. I have been interested in leagues for a long time. They either are on the wrong night or they are full. I think you would be fine in a dart league. I have played against people in dart leagues and I heard most rounds in cricket go into the low teens rounds. In most leagues, teams play 301, 501, and cricket.

I usually average above 2.0 marks per round in cricket. Normal game for me is around 11 rounds. I have closed out 2 games of cricket in 5 rounds. One of those games I closed everything but bulls in 3 rounds, then screwed up the 4th round. I have never finished a game in 6 rounds. I have at least 10 seven round games. I used to throw a lot for a couple of years.

I stand mostly sideways with my right foot diagonal at the line. I lean my upper body forward so my long arms can get a good reach towards the board. I don't do any of that aiming where people point their dart at the board. I hold the dart in the middle just behind the barrel. I use 18 gram darts, not sure of the name.

Last one...This one's in the 'burbs, so it'll suit you better. Shark City in Bloomingdale has leagues. I like Shark City a lot -- it's a real fun place. TONS of pool tables too.

OK, I'm done now. Maybe I should do work...

I'll be at a tournament tomorrow in Streamwood. Fifty North on Barrington Rd. $10 to enter. They pair you up randomly and you play 501 DI/DO and Cricket. Double elimination. They have 22oz Bud and Bud Light for $2.50.

I haven't played much for several years. I used to play a LOT! I used to do at least 2 tournaments a week.

The average number of rounds for cricket varies a bit depending on the skill and strategy of who your playing. A good player can regularly go out in 5-7 rounds unless you are good enough at scoring to force them out of their style of play. Playing a 12-13 round scoring game against money players will usually get you beat.

The pointers I can give you are:
  • Practice, practice, practice, then practice some more.
  • Vary your strategy depending on who your play.
  • Learn to recognize your opponents' style and vary your game appropriately.
  • Stay calm and play darts like you would play chess. Do not let a trash-talking player shake you out of your game.
  • Don't be afraid of point players, especially if they concentrate on one or two numbers.
  • When you practice, play your worst numbers first, then revisit your favored numbers.
  • Be careful about running up points against a good player. They can shake off a couple of bad rounds and beat you to death when they spot a weakness.
  • Did I say PRACTICE?
  • The most consistent players use as little movement as possible. Use your forearm, wrist and fingers. Don't try to "push" the dart, let it leave your hand. You are trying to achieve a smooth and consistent movement.
  • Play people who are better than you and play them for money. You will be more likely to pay attention and learn what works. Think of it as paying for school. You have to learn fast or it can get expensive!
  • Once you have skill, confidence is the name of the game. The guys that brag the most are most likely to fall apart when you dominate the game.

Dave

Just wanted to add:

In a double blind tournament, it's not over until you lose two rounds. Sometimes good players will have a bad round and get knocked out before you play again. You are playing other teams who have also lost a game and psychology can be a factor.

Also, if thinking about the money affects your game, don't play for money!

I played in a league in college. Go try darts for yourself and buy what feels good in your hand.

Drats are so so much fun. I love them. Boy jeff, you are just a man after my own heart. lol

The best advice that I have ever gotten is the following.

NEVER follow someone else, always play your own game. The moment you start following is the moment you lost.

It depends. Following can make you feel like you need to hit certain numbers. Then if you don't hit what you wanted to you are defeating yourself because it is a big let down. If you don't let the game get to you, you can follow and capatilize on the other teams mistake. It is always good to hit a number that the other team doesn't have, but if you are not hitting that number you need to move on and not get stuck on one number.

It ain't over, 'till its over!
