Official CLSB Garbage Picker

OK, so last week someone down the street moved. Through away a bunch of good stuff, a little tool kit, some power strips, couple good lamps, some good chairs. So I come home with the stuff, give the wife hell by saying, "guess what I found in the garbage maaaa?" (In your best inbread voice.) She just cringes, the thought of someone elses stuff. Did I mention she wasn't a princess before I met her? Well, that's a different topic...

Well, today is "big" garbage day an on my way to drop Drew off at school I spot another great find a couple houses down. So I bring it home. My wife spots it in the driveway. "Who's motorcycle is that?", she says. And with a grin I say, I found it in the garbage. Off go sensors, whistles, warning, warning... "Who throughs a motorcycle away in the garbage?", she says with skepticism, wondering what I bought or fanagled... The guy down the street... I think she believes me.

So it's a Kawasaki, 84-85 GPZ900R, one of the first Ninjas I guess. It's pretty rough, but funny. Now I need to figure out what to do with it. Part it out? Fix it up? Bring it to Blackhawk and burn it in the campfire as a sacrafice to the motorcycle gods? Too funny.

So I cruised the net this morning looking for info. Brought back some retro times and even found a cruiser/streetfighter on e-bay I wanted so bad back in the day.

Anybody have ideas on what to do with this thing? It is pretty heavy and would make a good boat anchor.

Yeah, it's all there. Even both keys. I might go ask the guy for the title. The airbox is out of it, but it was in the pile. I didn't do much more than ride it down the hill and push it up my driveway. Did I mention this thing is heavy? It seemed to shift OK but I haven't tried turning it over.

The plastics are rough, some primer, others spray bombed. No windscreen. 10K on the motor.

Specs I found earlier is a DOHC, 4 valves/cylinder, water cooled, 115HP at 9500

Take it to a walnecks show, someone will buy it. I've sold serveral bikes similar to the one you're talking about at Walnecks shows.

They have one in Grayslake and in Sandwich.

I know serveral people that would take that thing off your hands

This thing would be a killer bracket racer!!!!!!!

Weld a stretched arm to the frame and put a big slick on it. Get the motor running, ad a 2 step rev limiter an air shifter and throw a slick on the rear.

ebay my friend.

metal stock to weld a fixed swingarm maybe $50
A slick $100
2 step rev limiter $75
ignition $150
air shifter $200

You're talkin' less than 600 bucks for a bracket racer why is that expensive?????

Only question is how good the motor is but that'll be relative to whatever you do with it.

Well Jack, in a similar manner I came across an old '86 Honda 450. After talking to a few people, and the thing sitting in my garage for months, John and Kim became the new proud owners.

I still can't wait to see it at the track. John took the 450 motor out of the bike and crammed, and I mean crammed(special modifications needed) the engine into a YSR frame. So, it's John's pit bike, and Kim's mini Tiller!

Ciao,
Lupi

Before I got too far into it I would try to find out if it is stolen or anything... after that ... sounds like a good backup bike. demento bike.. project bike... drag bike... fix it and sell it bike... whatever...
think of it as good motorcycle carma to at least fix it enough to rescue it

I used to do the same stuff all the time.. hit the burbs to furnish our hangout.... amazing what people toss...

Jeff and Alison need to get a room. Alison's tiny little jeans that I can barely squeeze my booty in does not qualify as a room!

We were talking about other peoples junk can be other peoples treasures and now we're talking about stains in someones crotch.

Mwahahaha!!!

Ok, I get home from a small party (2 beers I SWEAR!!) and ther'es a PM saying "I don't know you but why are people talking abotu a stain in your jeans?!" LOL

So I read this thread....wow...a lot happens in a few hours!!!

First off, my skinny jeans must have been from High school. Can't wear skinny jeans anymore! lol Secondly, the stain was from when I pissed my pants laughing at Jeff naked. I though "oh my god it's so funny that someone who DOESN'T LIKE VAN HALEN thinks he might actually have a chance with me!!!!"
