What do you think about the shooting yesterday?

So, what do you guys think about what happened at Wrrigley yesterday after the game? I'm interested in what you have to say.

Sounds like they're shooting Sox fans up north now. North Siders better stay away from "The Cell" for a while. j/k

Booze, guns and baseball bats = super happy fun time!

RIP to the poor guy. Too bad this happened. From what the Sun-Times said the guy who got shot kinda instigated the whole thing. He whacked a Suburban with one of those novelty bats, owner gets out to thump him and gets the bat broke over his head, passenger gets out and shoots the guy with the bat.

They are also sayin the guy who got shot was a Sox fan, not that we should hold that against him.......

I'm just kidding guys, don't take me too seriously

Why the hell do people carry guns on the street? Do they really want to shoot somebody over a dented fender?

My paranoid self honestly waited to make sure that I heard that he wasn't from Warrenville, and that's the truth!

Then I thought of all the times I've seen (OK, and I myself) people run across the street to the Cubby Bear, and how easily this could just happen to anyone. The end of our lives can be just so random. Partying can turn tragic fast.

Oh, and I think it's time there was a statement made about the effectiveness of Major Daley's ban on handguns in the city...

...oh wait, I think that statement was made last night by a guy in an SUV...

Ok... here's what a witness proclaimed on the radio this morning. The guy "A" was walking across the street, when SUV tries going through intersection, honking horn a little bit and yelling out the window, "Cubs fans suck". Ok, so guy "A" walks behind SUV that's stuck in traffic and hits SUV in bumper with novlety miniature bat. Driver of SUV gets out of SUV and confronts man "A". He grabed man "A" by the shirt and man "A" defends himself by hitting the SUV driver with the bat, (I belived over the head)... Passenger from SUV gets out of vehicle and shoots man "A" in chest and they speed off leaving man "A" for dead in the street.

Now... what do you think?

A few weeks ago my dumb ass brother was wasted after going to a cubs game. He was walking down clark street to the train and thought it would be a good idea to start kicking cars. Well one on the cars he kicked had a big ass dude in it who didn't like the fact that he had a dent in his car now. So he proceded to knock all of my brother's front teeth out with one punch. If he had kicked this guy's suburban he'd probably be dead right now. People are freakin wacko's out there, and dumb asses who don't respect other people's property and wackos don't mix too well.

I think I'm happy that the SUV occupants were taken into custody. They started it, finished it, and now our judicial system will finish them. Happy suffering assholes.

But my point is... Do you think that partying at the friendly confines has ANYTHING to do with this incident? It could have happened right outside of the Cell! That's the part that is pissing me off.

No it would not have happened outside of the cell. People get drunk at the game and then get drunker in wrigleyville. The party atmosphere around that neiborhood especially after a big cub win make's people's fear go away so they think they can wack someone's car and not get the shit kicked out of them. If you are outside of the cell you have the fear of getting the shit kicked out of you so you don't hit someone's car with a bat.

I hate partying in the city like that for this reason. There's a thread around here about some drunk prick grabbin' my wife's ass while we were in Lincoln Park one night. I guess I'm just getting old. I don't want to put up with that crap. Its much more enjoyable to me to gather with a close group of friends and have a blast instead of put up with a bunch of drunk pricks I don't even know.

That was your wife?? Sorry man. (Nice caboose though! )

It amazes me that the passenger's first reaction to seeing his buddy get whacked in the head was to get out and shoot the guy. WTF??

Anyone know if the gun was registered (outside of the city of course)?

she does....thanks

Doesn't matter if it was registered outside. It has to be in pieces to be transported through the city. This is one of the reasons I moved out of Daleyland.

How drunk do you have to be to run out onto the field and tackle a first base coach and proceed to beat the crap out of him? No, they don't drink down there on the South Side.

I'm not saying they don't drink, but running out to the field and attacking someone is not that dangerous when you think about it. The worst thing that will happen to you is you'll get piled on by a bunch of securtiy guards. When you do something stupid on the street because you're drunk and you have a FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY(the point I was trying to make) anything can happen like getting shot and killed.

I'm not saying it was the guy's fault for hitting the car or that the neighboorhood is bad because it's a fun neighboorhood to drink and be merry. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's a bad mix when people are drunk AND they aren't scared that something bad can happen to them. It's still the city, and there are still wacko's. It's just a little easier to remember this when your by the cell.

I agree with JoJo somewhat. The Wrigley area has always been kinda gentrified. Kind of like an entertainment area. On the other hand, Bridgeport, the area around Comisky(I know, I know) has always been a bit shady. Pardon me south siders but I lived and worked around there for quite a while. When you get out of the park, you stick together with your buddies or family and go straight to your car. No messin' around.

I'm hoping this stays on topic, but Americans...ok not all Americans, but mainly those in or around bigger cities have the attitude that'll get you in trouble. I think it's the cramped quarters that partially explain people becoming trigger happy/hostile and very judgemental. Folks around large cities have a say in everything whether it's their business or not. If not their business then usually it's an 'opinion' which of course everyone is entitled to? I learned in school that opinions often mean nothing, so was told to know when to express them and when not to...sure I was entitled to do so, but could look more like a fool. How this ties back in is that if I'm a diehard cubs fan and someone is yelling something against them, I should think about what me yelling contributes. If it's in a party fun atmosphere and we're kidding around then that's one thing. If it's some dude rolling by in a car then I continue on my way and let them have a good time without throwing in my opinion.
