Just got a call from a buddy of mine who is a National Guard Recruiter, he said that the WHOLE IRR is being activated and recalled and everyone is going to be put into ACTIVE reserve units. Can anyone confirm this? I'm thinking of contracting into ROTC so I won't be activated but will have to do 4 years after college (I just want to go to school right now). I have 1 year 3 months left in the IRR.

Lemme know if anyone else knows anything else

I just got out of the IRR in March. I guess I'd better call my old unit and make sure I am off their books.

I hope you don't go back overseas, man. You did your time. I'll let you know what I find out.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Wouldn't doubt this is happening. One of the local units that got activated, but not sent anywhere. The soldiers understandably got pissed and quit coming to drill. Then, they got involuntarialy transferred to the IRR, which looks bad. Before the commanders took that step the offerred them tranfers to less-activated units. Most didn't take it. So now they were these highly needed MOS's sitting in the IRR. If you have a heavily needed MOS (Military Police, Intelligence, combat engineers, medics), they'll probably snag you pretty quick. They are even going so far as to activate entire battalions, sending them all through a reclassification course and sending them overseas. Thought is that they have trained together before so they can work together, regardless of what exactly they are doing. On top of this, they are completely restructuring the reserve system. I'm still trying to figure out how that exactly changes the units. I THINK the goal is to activate people more often, but for less lengths of time.

If you are interested in ROTC, I'd definately talk to the ROTC recruiter at your school. With decent grades and good military history, you are almost guaranteed a contract. You can also do a longer military stint in the reserves instead of active duty time if you prefer that.

YES IT IS A SCAM.. check out www.cbs2chicago.com

the story will be on the website at 9am.. the army fucking over its soldiers.. sheesh. I just saw this on the news. An army spokesperson condoned the use of scare tactics to recruit people.

They are basically using scare tactics. THIS IS REAL. They did the SAME exact thing to me! They called me up and said I need to come in and pick a unit in the reserves because by June 15th I'm going to be activated. Let ur friends and family know not to sign!
