I guess bikers are second class citizens

Tom Short-

In today's paper is an article about a trucker who ran down a motorcyclist on a freeway in the rain and dragged her for 300 feet before coming to a stop with her pinned under the semi truck's front axle . His excuse? It was raining so hard that he didn't see her "until the last minute." Their speed difference was reported to be just 15 mph. The article said it was unlikely that any citations will be issued!!

I'm sure everyone has seen the new sign there putting up by road constuction" hit a road worker will cost you $14,000 and jail time"!!! The problem is the perception is that a car hits a motorcycle. THATS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The car hits a MOTORCYCLIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The laws need to change so that hitting a motorcycle/motorcyclist is the same as hitting a pedestrian! A PERSON! Also, vehicles need to be consittered a killing device. I'd being willing to bet that a person has a better chance of surviving a gun shot than being ran over by car doing 65 mph.

That just pisses me off. You hit a motorist. Regargless if it was a car or bike. Give him at least a failure to yeld or something. It give the general public "which is dumber than a box of rocks" the idea that if you hit someone on a bike it's O.K. so why look out for them.

I'm not short. I'm aerodynamically efficient.

One thing about this story is Gilreath, the truck driver was traveling at a legal speed 65, and Olson, the lady on the bike was driving at 50 mph, which was appropriate for road conditions.

I thought large trucks are supposed to drive slower then the posted speed limit No matter what. Because of the vehicles extra weight and longer required stopping distance. He said " It was raining so hard he didn't see her" But the was still doing the posted speed limit... Isn't that wrong?

You would think that the cop would have given the truck driver a ticket for failing to reduce speed for the road conditions.

If she's not looking to blame the guy, neither will I. BUT, he should get a ticket of some sort, simply to avoid any confusion/troubles when she has to sue his insurance company. At the very least, he should get a tailgating or driving at a speed in excess of road conditions type citation.

that's f'n bullshit....
i've noticed that cops really don't give any shit to truckers. I got a ticket for speeding, while going the same speed as the 18 wheeler next to me. Except my speed limit was 10 MPH higher than the trucks... but I'm the one that got pulled over. What gives?

Trucks get their share of law enforcement, believe me.

If you were going 10 mph faster than the truck, how could both of you be going the same speed?
