Hiding cells in Excel...

Who knows how to hide the cells that remain after you subtotal cells in Excel? I need to get rid of the stuff that I subtotaled.

You can hide entire rows or columns by clicking on the gray letter or number cell. then right click in the shaded area and click hide

Couple different things you can do.

1. Hiding columns and rows: highlight either the columns and/or rows then right click and "hide". Assume you hid column B. Select columns A and C. Right click. Unhide.

2. Just create a summary sheet with the necessary results and then use the print area selection appropriately.

Is this what you were asking?

if it's a whole row or a column, you can simply right-click on the number of the row or the letter of the column, and choose 'hide'.

No, this is what I was looking at... I subtotaled these rows, but I wanted to export just the subtotals. I figured it out. If you're interested, here's how to do it...

Not to email... into Filemaker.
And I would just highlight those cells, but I have 12,324 of them to copy. So, after you get them subtotaled you just click on the little #2 at the left to get only the totals to be visable... (however, if you copy and paste here, you will also be copying the cells you can't see. Notice how the cell #'s don't go in 1, 2, 3... - there are cells you can't see)

sorry man...I follow now. Here you go

Copy only visible cells

If there are hidden cells, rows, or columns on your worksheet, you can copy only the visible cells_¾ for example, you can copy only the displayed summary data on an outlined worksheet.

1 Select the cells you want to copy.
2 On the Edit menu, click Go To.
3 Click Special.
4 Click Visible cells only, and then click OK.
5 Click Copy .
6 Select the upper-left cell of the paste area.
7 Click Paste .

Note Microsoft Excel pastes the copied data into consecutive rows or columns. If the paste area contains hidden rows or columns, you might need to unhide the paste area to see all of the copied cells.
