Ugh.. the phone company

Well, I am sick of the phone company taking all of our money every month. We have two lines, and one is just for the fax machine. I want to go down to our one main line with basic service on it, but I also want to tie in our fax machine on that line also. What do I need to do to run the fax machine and the phone on one line? I want to make sure that the answering machine picks up calls and the fax machine does the faxes.

Just plug them all in. Unless you have ancient equipment, the fax will recognize a call is a fax. If not, it'll go to answering machine. The only thing is, ya have to wait about 3 rings before you pick up, in case it is a fax.

No problem. Thats what i have here. Its called NAM? or something. When the phone rings you answer it. If its a fax you just hang up and the fax machine then takes it. Its really odd how the fax machine does it cause the fax NEVER picks up when someone (voice) calls and even the answering machine works. The fax ONLY picks up when a fax machine calls.

you do not need 2 lines at all.

This should all work with the same phone line... Just plug everything in. fax machine should only pick up faxes, and answering machine should not pick up faxes. So, there you go.

I have two phone numbers coming in on the same line. One is for my phone, the other for the fax. The phone company set up my fax number with a 'distinct ring'. My fax machine is programed to recognize the different ring and picks up.

It all goes back together the way it came apart...unless it came apart at redline!
