NASCAR Question

Question for all the NASCAR fans. I noticed today that when the cars are lined up and waiting for their turn at time trials they all seem to have something attached that looks like a generator. What is it, and what's it for? They were unhooked a little before the cars were started.

Any ideas?

A portable A/C unit that they plug into the drivers air intake to keep him cooled down. It can get 140 in a racecar even on 75-80 days. Even when I drove open wheel I still had a form of a cool suit under the nomex suit.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Thanks

I noticed a few teams get creative with the units. The Dewalt unit has crome rims, and the UPS teams looks like a mini UPS truck.
