Hard disk data transfer to ne PC?

I got a new dell because i fried my old asus motherboard by overheating it and the amd chip too. anyway, i beleive the old hard drive is good and all my data is hopefully good.

my question is can i install my old HD (windows 2000 professional NTFS) into my new windows xp computer and get the data to transfer onto the new HD?

do i need special sofftware or because they both run on NTFS i should just be able to hook it up and transfer files?

hook it up as the slave drive. It will still boot from the master then just transfer.

music files and digi photos will move without any problems at all.

applications make registry entries and are difficult to just "move". I'm sure someone on here has the old kazaa lite, just ask around!

Also, when you download software you like you should keep the original install files in an application directory in case you ever need to reinstall.

yeah i just thought of that(keeping the original file before opening it and going to setup.)

I found the updated kazaa lite version by downloading it from my older kazaa program!!! so no need for it there. i keep ya'll updated to see if the transfer works or i be back to seek more advise!!!!

eMule is pretty nice. You will get a lot more results from searches and more than likely you will find what you are looking for. I seem to get downloads faster with Kazaa though.

Also, don't keep the original install files on your puter... Burn them all to CD. What happens if your HD takes a dump???
