my friend ALMOST had his bike stolen...

Happened yesterday at around 11p.m. in NW Chicago area. We were all riding around and then pulled over by his house and just rested for a little bit. He took his bike and left to his friend's house. He was riding on a side street and was approaching a car that just stopped on a stop sign. He stopped behind the car waiting for the car to continue going, when one of the rear passengers (4 passengers in the car, all males "bang gangers lol") jumped out of the car and approached my friend with a 40oz bottle wanting to swing at him. Right when my friend saw that, he punched it and took off on the side just missing the guy. Well my friend wasn't wearing a helmet at that moment, so if he got hit that would've hurt.
That made me think. Do you guys ever think of what you would do in that type of situation?? I mean even with my helmet and all my gear on , if there are like 4 guys coming at me it would be kinda tough. so.... WHAT WOULD YOU DO??

Do you guys carry anything with you??

thats a good point.. its not like you can take off in reverse?

I guess I would gun it??? or at least start memorizing the plates on the car?

I bet they weren't even trying to steal the bike, they were probably just drunk and pissed about the annoying bike light bouncing up and down behind them.

If it were me, and they didn't have a gun out, I would throttle it and hope for the best.

doublepost. I forgot to mention I always wear TImax hooligan gloves and a lid, so I think I could probably fight off any idiot without a gun.

Always leave yourself an out to escape.

BTW, where exactly was this, since I'm not too far from you on the NW side?

This was near Narragansett and Belmont. If they wanted to really still the bike or not, shiiit it still gets me to think what I would do in the situation, all i know is that from now on, i will always wear my gloves .

man that's [email protected]!%# up! well i'm glad your friend made it away ok. i say always keep your distance from the car in front of you just in case you need to take off for some certain reason. always give yourself a way to get out. if ur friend was too close to that car in front he would have been screwed.

It's being rebuilt.

Belmont/Narragansett - Polish sportbiker heaven - interesting, I've never had any problems near there. I go past there frequently myself. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident, unless it was an out-of-neighborhood punk who was the problem. There was one guy - I know his name is RallyKid on SBN, I don't know if he posts here - who was bikejacked at gunpoint near Portage Park a year or two ago when he was infront of his GFs house, and from what I remember, it was by people who were not from the neighborhood.
