Getting a tattoo (Jade Dragon)

I'm supposed to be getting a tattoo from Jade Dragon this Sat. I've talked to about 4 people saying that they're not a good place. One said that they're too overpriced and another said that after a couple of months the tat starts to fade.
Has anyone ever gone through them? Any bad experiences. Since this is permanent I want to do it right the first time.

too much $$$ at Jade... go to rockford n get $$$$ off the price at Jade...

if its really detailed make sure u go somewhere with a reputable artist... but if there isnt much details such as letters and single color tattoos w/o much shadding most artists can do it...

They're pretty good. I got mine from there about 4 yrs ago and I liked the turnout. My friend and two cousins got theirs from there too and it turned out good also. You don't wanna go too cheap on tats cuz you might get what you paid for.

i've heard some bad things about jade dragon, too, but my experience with them has been positive.

my boyfriend got his tat done there about 7 years ago and it still looks great. george papas was the artist who worked on it. george also did one of my piercings, which i'm quite happy with. if i ever suck it up and get a tat, i'll prolly go back to him.

The only thing I can say about Jade is that they were reputable enough to throw my drunken ass out a few years ago. Went in around 3am to get a tat that I just HAD to have (at the moment). After laughing at me for about 15 min, they kindly showed me which way the door was and left me to drive home...oops.

G'luck and post the pics when you're done!

I haven't hit that place before. My two came from Tattoo Factory and some place in Milwaukee that used to be a guitar shop. The place in Milwaukee was a good deal.

Pricing changes on the weekends, and if you pay cash/charge. If you can manage a weekday it might be cheaper since the business isn't as brisk. I doubt the guy I used for my second tattoo (Milwaukee) would have done it if I went during a weekend. It took over 3 hours and is twice the size of my first one (which was the same price, done on a Saturday). The tattoo factory had a couple sailors in there, various shoppers, etc. They wanted me in, then out. When there are customers lined up, I can't blame them!

Do you have the design already picked? Size? May want to shop to some local places. If the place isn't clean enough to do bleed in, move on. But most places have to be super clean to get the first time customers in there.

Oh, and post a picture

Jade Dragon is pretty average from my observations there. I had two friends that got inked there. They seem to have turned into a quickie-tattoo mart. They do have some good artists still, from what I've heard. They can also tend to be high-pressure if you're not 100% set on what you want. I'd say they're nothing that great or terrible from what I've seen and heard. They just have advertising that gets their name out there.

I got mine done at Rising Phoenix in Glen Ellyn. I'm looking into other shops for my next one(s).

Cherry Bomb is supposed to be awesome for custom stuff, but I'd imagine pretty expensive.

No experience w/ Jade. I got mine done at Tattoo Factory, and am completely satisfied with it. My wife ( Ladydemona) got her last one done there and it's awsome as well. She's always getting compliments on it from random people. The details in the skull on mine were all done by freehand, and turned out really good. Ask us to see em if ever you see us at a meet, we'll be glad to show you.

I have gotten two tattoo's there, pretty good size over $400 each tattoo and my X wife got here 2 there. George Pappas did both of mine about ten years ago and they still look new. I will take pics soon. They are expensive but you pay for what you get. Remember it will say with you forever. I don't regret get them and if I didn't spend all my money on motorcycle racing I would be covered in tattoo's. Good luck and don't drink before you go. It thins your blood and gets messy.

Go for the artist and not the shop. I got mine from Miles at Tattoo factory and he did an incredible job. While I was getting mine done there was another artist doing walkin's very quickly. You could tell he wasn't going very deep (fades fast) and he didn't care too much about his work. Go in before you get it done and talk to the artist you're interested in. Explain your ideas on what you want to get their creative juices flowing. They'll care a lot more about one of their creations a lot more then tracing a picture that you picked out from a book.

We got ours ther 3 yrs ago by Filthy Phil. I sure hope he's still ther, I got plans on playing with the one he did for me, and really, I would only trust him to do it.

Mine was apretty good size tat that was $325.

got mine at Jade... not bad overall. I'm sure the others can prob do the same though.. but i would agree that they're on the pricey side..

...maybe because DMX got his tatoo there, they can charge more ...

I got my tattoo there about 3 years ago. It hasn't faded (they only do that if you spent too much time in the sun and no sunscreen). The price seemed ok to me.

Sun does make them fade but bigger than that is the type of ink they use. Also if the tattoo artist does not put the ink in your skin properly. ie. stretching your skin, size of needle used (3,5,7, mag, etc etc), angle of gun against skin, etc etc....The sun can fade a tat but you gotta be out in the sun alot. It has more to do with the work the artist does & the quality of the products used.

One of my friends from HS just moved back to town from Tampa where he did alot of ink on Buccaneers players and other assorted celebs. He's in Joliet, operating a place called West Side Tatoo, I think that's the name anyway. His name is Mark, pm me for more info. Awesome work, you just gotta see what he can do.
