Exchange 2000 Admins!!!

When replicating an Exchange 2K server to another Exchange 2K server, what FSMO roles do you have to copy to the new server? How many are there? I want to make sure I get them all before I take down the first Domain Controller. Doesn anyone have experiance with building a new Exchange box and moving mailboxes to the new one? The mailboxes won't be hard, but I want to make sure it's all working before I move them. It will take forever, and I won't have time to move them back before we have to go back into production. Please help!

Thanks!

hope this helps

here ya go man, from a friend of mine who does this shit all the time.

First question: If the current Exchange server IS also a Domain Controller (and holding the FSMO roles, certainly move them off to the new Exchange server, whenever it doesn't matter, sooner=better)

Second, make sure that the default Recipient Update Server has been changed to the new server
The default routing master server has been changed to the new server.
(The last two I'm talking about are controlled via the Exchange System Manager)
Also be certain that your SMTP Connector has a connection in it to have the new Exchange Server as a bridgehead server as well for Internet Mail.
Also: Be Certain that default Offline Address Book is pointing to the new server and not the old.
If the old Exchange server is a Global Catalog server, make sure then as well that the new server is a GC.
GC is set via AD Sites and Services ,- Expand server - expand ntds settings, properties of that and check the "Global Catalog" server option
but definitely make sure to move the FSMO roles, have him do a google "move fsmo roles" if he needs to.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;255504
That covers siezing the roles if it comes down to it

Seizing them isn't so bad, it happens and it may be needed a ttimes.
So, there you go, thats a base real rough idea of how to get it done
