I just got PUNKED! Best place to sell a bike?

I just got totally screwed.

This woman looked at my Sportster about 2 months ago and LOVED it and said she'd have a check for me right away...A week passes, and she finally fesses up that the check is coming from a trust fund, which must go through a trust board, taking 30 days.

Over the course of the last 2 months, she's been increasing the price that she'll give me for my bike so that I would not sell it to the other people who made me offers. She kept beating their offers. I really need the extra money, so I held out for her offer, as she said "We have a deal," when I'd tell her about the other people who want the bike.

I called her once on Friday and once on Saturday, and no callback. I have not had any of my calls answered in 2 weeks.

My ad in the Cycletrader is still active, but I'm not getting calls anymore. The season is winding down. What do I do? I know there are a LOT of places to sell motorcycles, various publications...Where would you recommend I go? What gets the MOST exposure? I start making payments again on this bike soon and I can't handle it.

Check with Sam. Maybe he'll have a few leads for you. He sells these everyday or might want to buy it himself or a low commission deal.

I wont even bother with people that pull that crap. Most I'll hold on a vehicle I'm selling is 3 days. I dont know of any bank that would take longer than 3 days to approve a loan. After that whoever comes up with the cash takes it. Personally I think she's trying to get you to lower the price because if you wait for her, teh season would end and you will drop the price to get rid of it.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

If I were you go to EBAY! .... I have bought 4 bikes on there, and sold 3 of them back when I was done with them, and all together only lost 800.00 after a couple years use and couple thous. miles. IT'S all about the presentation, and being very descriptive

I sold my Valkyrie on Ebay, it was great. It even ended up going to a guy 15 minutes north of me. He was here te next day with a cashiers check.

If ya need some advice or have questions on the auctions I'll be glad to help ya out.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

take a 5-10% non refundable downpayment and give them "X" amount of time (2 weeks is usually plenty of time) to come up with the rest, at that time it is open for new/more offers. This will deffinetly weed out the people who are sketchy.

This is fair bussiness. Iv been jerked around to many times and now i wont do it any other way, (unless they are truly really good friends of mine)

Willard: When I was home after my first tour, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said "yes" to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there; when I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle.

Yeah, I'm learning my lesson. Up until this time, I'd never sold a car or bike before...So I don't know what I'm doing. I also trust people a lot...people say that I trust people like a child and it's just a matter of time before I get taken advantage of...

This just in!

I just got a voicemail from the buyer. She's saying that she's getting irritated with the guy who's supposed to give her her check. She says he's coming over to her house tonight or tomorrow night. Hopefully, I can transact this bike this week.

Keep your fingers crossed everyone!!!

Irritated?

If this person is getting irritated, you have to wonder why. If a trustee or board is irritating her (presumably asking her why she needs the money and how she justifies spending it on a bike) there may be a problem in her "trust fund". I think the best advice is to start getting your ebay pictures and descriptive ad prepared so you don't delay any further. At most, you can give her 48-72 hours to get your cash and then go ebaying. I'd even leave her a polite voicemail saying you need the money and will have no choice to sell to another person if she can't get it to you.

I've been in this situation before. If you post it up for auction and by some miracle she comes to you after a few days, you can always terminate the auction.
