Thats rediculous. I thought the tollbooths were originally planned to be removed a few years ago and make it a true freeway. There was some funny ideas floating around here when people here heard that they wanted to raise tolls back in 02. Someone said WI should put a tollbooth on the westbound side of I-90 right before I-43 interchange and just make IL vehicles stop for the booths. And as for $.80 being half of national ave, most those states booths are a hell of a lot farther apart than 20 miles like the Rockford to Belvedere booths are. Even teh one near huntley/marengo isnt much more than 20 miles from belvedere. When I go to chicago in I-90 I hit 4 booths.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

He's a democrat, what did you expect Hell he did it so we would all be better citizens And he'll stop speeding to boot You'll all be sitting in line to pay your tolls, can't speed if your sitting in line waiting to give him your hard earned cash. And you know what's next? Mores taxes on gas, cigarettes, booze and "luxury" food items, I guarentee it

I would but I don't use it that much. I have to pay 40.00 and that will last me a long time. When I do use the tollways I use it for work and have to get a recipt anyways so I still have to use the manuel lanes to do that. I also pull my camper, so again use the manual lanes to pay for my camper. It's a joke, they are talking about using the I-Pass to get speeders also. I admit, I do speed, about 5-10 over. Who doesn't?????

If he has his way...I-90 will be like the highway I was on in France from Paris to Belgium. It cost over 5 Euros to drive on a <200km stretch of freeway.

At least the French don't crusie in the left lane. They ALWAYS pull to the right...which is really cool. That way the BMW's and Audi's can zoom by at 150+kph.

That blows ass!!! We all think how this is bad but think on when we need to tow our bikes to the track or where ever. We are going to pay big bucks that's . Also that takes jobs away from the people that work the tolls and leaves more people jobless. Politicians are full of sh*t. And the comment that it will encourage truckers to drive more at night, I see alot more trucking accidents happening!!!

Lesson learned: Never, ever, EVER believe them when they start pulling that "temporary tax increase" BS. You'd be suprised how much of our taxes, fees, tolls, etc were originally sold to the voters as "temporary." Hell, we're still paying the "temporary" taxes that were levied for WW2. Last time I checked, WW2 has been over for 50 years...

ztruckers are waaay pissed because what you dont here is that a good portion of them cant drop or pick up loads at night so they haveto wait here to drive during the day, so they get stuck with the tolls no matter what. Driving at night doesnt do anything for them.

You aint kiddin. The toll system was SUPPOSED to be torn down after it payed for the original construction of the roads.

I'd realy like to see na audit to see where blago has been spending the money from the toll system in the first place. this is all just to cover the losses he's suffered in the state budget becasue he raised taxes on business's so much. he did the exact opposite of what a conservative would do and we are one of the last state to feel the recovery, every other state is ahead of us now.

Yup...another example of how lawmakers don't understand the "big picture" of how what seems like a good idea up front isn't practicle 1 or 2 degrees further down the line.

I was talking to a truck driver one day who said he was coming back from WI one night and went through a toll. There was a very large vehicle pulling a few hoppers at the toll booth. He said it took him a few minutes to figure out what it was, but it was all the days tolls being collected and taken in. It's so heavy that the trucks have to have special wheels. I wonder if I can find a picture of this. Any way... I figured out one day what the toll should make on average just during morning and afternoon rush hour(s) traffic. I forget the actual number, but I'll see if I can find my notes. It was pretty rediculous!

"Getting rid of the toll booths means less traffic and it means improved quality of life for everybody that uses the tollway system," the governor said.

..... At the price of increased cost of goods shipped in or out of Chicago by increasing the rates to truckers and visitors (people without I-Pass)

What a sterotypical Socialist statement....I mean Democrat.

"He noted that Ohio raised tolls 82 percent several years ago and ended up seeing many more trucks start using secondary roads to avoid the tolls. That created more wear and tear on the backroads, and the state is now trying to lure trucks back to the toll roads with lower fees and higher speed limits."

Ok... I found this, " 274 miles of roads serve 1.3 million daily vehicles". Now if we assume that every one of these vehicles pays their minimum of $0.40 once a day, that would be $520,000 per day. Is there something wrong with my math??

Then they built 355 and decided they still needed the money to maintain the current roads. A lot of the money collected was also wasted on the IDOT building in Downer's Grove. Either you pay higher taxes or tolls. For those that don't use the highway often it's not a hard decision which option is better.

Yes, you UNDER ESTIMATED the daily income! Two years ago, when Governor George Ryan's administration proposed sweeping Tollway changes, the Tribune reported their annual income at $340,000,000. That's almost a MILLION DOLLARS A DAY, two years ago.

No wonder they're pushing I-PASS so hard. Think about it- if everything's collected automatically, they've eliminated one of their biggest problems and expenses...COUNTING ALL THE MONEY EACH DAY! Fewer human toll collectors needed then, too= much greater profits!

With the I-PASS proposed changes, it almost ensures the indefinite future and financial health of a growing bueracracy, one that pretty much makes up it's own rules and answers to no one.

Get used to it.
