IE really sucks for popups. I've tried just about everything and you really can't win. Not using IE is the only solution I've come up with. You can either stick with the SBC browser, the Firefox browser, or if you wanna stick with IE, download MyIE, it has a built-in popup blocker that actually seems to work. Google has a downloadable toolbar for IE with a popup blocker, but it doesn't seem to work as well.

I got them very little, but still drove me nuts. i did the spybot, the free internet spy thing and it worked ok. I bought Webroot Spy Sweeper at the store and it found even more spy crap on my computer. I guess you get what you pay for. Ever since the Spy Sweeper I have no pop-ups. I do have this thing running on my computer omce in a while. It's called Back Web, the Spy Sweeper says that some of my computer needs it. Does anyone know what this is? When Back Web runs, my computer slows down, I blocked it in my firewall and when my computer runs slow, I do the ctrl-alt-delete and see it's running and end task, then my computer is fine.
Again my question, what is Back Web??

Get a mallet and beat your computer until it works right

No, IE is terrible. In fact, everything Microsoft is targeted for popups, email viruses are targeted toward Outlook....

Just use Netscape. It's problem free and has a cool radio built in

post some of the things that adaware keeps removing. that would be a start.

a lot of the ad spam shit nowadays hits up your registry to re-install themselves from some place that they've squirreled themselves away on your hard disk. so stuff like spybot and adaware only remove the active ones that it finds. next reboot/login - bam, that shit is back

look through your log files and then google some of the keywords that you find for the crap that it removes. chances are one of the antivirus sites will have more info or tools to help you remove ALL of the crap instead of just snipping away at parts of it

Search for "Hijack this" and "CoolwwwShredder" on download.com

Be careful with "HiJack This"... if you're not sure what to do with it, post up the scan results and I'll tell you what to keep/remove.

I clean this shit off about 3 computers a day on the average. There's lots of places for this crap to hide.

Kelly,

Tony helped back about a year ago, with XP, which I have on both computers, I was getting pop ups, all the time. He told me to go to this XP file thingy, and disable it. I haven't had a pop up since, also just to piss off all the computer geeks, if you get an AOL, instead of a "real" internet account, shit like that doesn't happen, cause, big brother AOL takes care of it AOL is perfect for morons like me, you know the people that use their CD tray as a cup holder I wish they would make a bigger hole in the cd tray, so I can put my big gulp there, right now it just makes a big sweat puddle on top of the tower, then leaks inside, then the computer smokes a little, and makes funny noises, then the screen goes blank, then I have to kick it.....DELL makes crappy computers, I wonder what is wrong with this POS Sorry I'm off topic, I'm pretty sure if you find a virgin and sacrifice to the keyboard gods at the stroke of midnight, when you have a full moon your pop ups will go away....don't use Jeff, Allsion already had him.

Your techincally challenged friend,

Rick

I did spybot and you're right, as soon a reboot, bam. Like I said I only get 1 pop up a day if that. Ever since I bought the Spy Sweeper I get none. I also have the Yahoo pop-up blocker and I think that helps to along with the spy sweeper.

Or just take chukies advice and stay away from the porn sites

Netscape is based on mozzila, which is what firefox is based off of to. only difference is, netscape is dead, and not evolving.

First time I used Netscape was in my first year of college (1994).

Version 1.0 under Windows 3.11

That's 10 years ago, when it was the shizzle.
